Yeah they look like sh*t but then the FS versions don't look that great either. A slight step up from the DVD but not much. Not worth the money.

I don't think the BL movies will ever look as good as we want them to look. Even ETD from a major US company still has it's problems

Cliff MacMillan knowingly and willingly passes SD upconverted Fortune Star titles as Blu Ray.
Kentai and I busted him on it.

Just read through the long thread on BR.com. Up 'til now, I've been very pleased with most of Shout/Scream Factory's releases to the point of pre-ordering many of their genre titles. But the way they've blown this release and (so far) provided pretty lame reasoning for the way this set has come out is appalling. I had considering picking this set up, but it's gonna be a pass for me now and I'm definitely going to wait on future reviews before blind buying any future SF titles.

I was banned by Blu-ray.com in March for pointing out that MacMillan lied about his Jackie Chan releases.
Now they upgraded my ban to: "Forever".
Evidently MacMillan used his insider status and blamed me for the backlash against him.

Anyway, Cliff told a big lie and tried to say his "Telecine Colorist at Fotokem" signed off on the transfers.

Anyway, Shout will probably be upset with Cliff's conduct, and the whole "blaming it on Fotokem thing".

I am not sure how you expect an employee of the company to address an issue of this nature. He is not going to publicly admit they are inferior transfers. Shout Factory has gone in a different direction lately on Blu-ray, licensing everything in sight and not worrying much about the quality of the transfer. They now have a string of passing off mediocre HD transfers on Blu-ray. It is certainly disappointing but as you said the better BDs are still available in other territories, including Region A releases.

There is really nothing Shout can do unless they plan to scrap everything and re-do the Bruce Lee set, which is not economically feasible. Feel sorry instead for the average Joe that isn't informed and randomly buys it for Christmas.

Fortune Star takes your money and then delivers the masters. That means THEY ARE ****ED! They purchased two dozen titles at one time and received nothing but upscales and are slowly releasing them. Check out the POLICE STORY 1 & 2 abomination. When I pointed to proof of the upscales Cliff launched a series of personal attacks against me.

By the way, is it just me or is it now impossible to post images here that are not shrunk to near tiny proportions?

Fanboyz, he sure did. It was in the Police Story thread some months back. Most of his attacks were deleted but amazingly enough I wasn't banned. Likely due to my showing proof. WHat is incredible is he was looking for people with old laserdiscs of the Hong Kong films for Shout to use to record the PCM sound since they only received bad remixes from Fortune Star. I offered to help and he was thrilled. Just days later he freaked out when I talked about Police Story.

He hasn't posted in the Bruce Lee thread since the wave of proof was posted yesterday.

OK if other vendors are offering HD Blu ray of Bruce Lee titles, who is offering region free or Region A as an alternative to Shout?

Basically everyone (Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, France) has HD Fortune Star versions of this movie, Hong Kong probably being the most common.
It's a bummer because everyone figured Shout would have the best overall package, yet they screwed the proverbial pooch on that front.

I'll just go to Yes Asia and buy the Hong Kong ones now that I know nothing better is coming.

I don't understand why they would do this. Did they not think anyone would notice? That's absurd. Did they not acquire rights to the Chinese HD scans of the films? Why even bother then?

I'm glad there are enthusiasts to keep these salesman honest, it's a shame - I was looking forward to the set and just waiting for reviews. Definite pass, friggin' sucks.

An update on this release - Shout Factory is delaying the release until Sept 17th to "correct the mislabeling" of the discs. Thus, many online sites like Amazon are offering exchanges or refunds for "defective product" already shipped (although there is no mention of any kind about returns on the SF site). Presumably and especially given the time frame true 1080p sources won't be used on any new discs.

Cliff continues to state the current set sources are 1080p sources as noted in his post on br.com about a week ago:

"From Fortune Star regarding the masters -

Checked with our material department, it is the same HDCAM master we provided to you and our HK video distributor. The HDCAM masters are not up-converted version but were re-mastered version originated from the negatives of the Films several years ago in Canada.

The HK video distributor didn’t spend money to improve the masters but the studio who worked for the blu-ray encoding has fine tune the colour and brightness of the films before the production.

As I have mentioned before, we also spent time color correcting the masters and removing scratches."

It depends, they lied and they used the postal service to disseminate their fraudulent goods- a crime.

Well the Shout defenders are now out in force. I have been personally attacked on YouTube and AICN, sometimes viciously. We're talking about some vile remarks that would result in immediate bans here.

Such is life. The set is being delayed, but unfortunately not due to them replacing their masters. But at least this will giver some time to cancel as people start talking about it.

Popular and professional opinion is fairly critical to the sales of Shout Factory's niche releases on Blu-ray. I doubt many readers on the Internet will end up unaware about the true nature of these transfers. They've certainly cost themselves a sale on my end.

Too true. On YouTube I simply posted a link to the Blu Ray forum thread and was attacked for it. eek.gif At AICN I've seen a shift in the posts now that people are starting to see the screen grabs. No doubt Shout has a real loser on their hands.
