Haven't seen it.

First big release in a while.

What's the sound and video like? Entertaining?

There are more than a handful of [op amps] that sound so good that most designers want to be using them as opposed to discreet transistors. Dave Reich, Theta 2009

Haven't seen it, but hear it is visually stunning.

I would agree, visually stunning and the sound was very good; think surrealistic Art Deco with the best Blu-ray transfer.  But the movie falls flat on its ass IMHO.

The presentation of story plot is fairly accurate to the book, however, it is presented in an almost Cliff Notes kind of way.  Great cast, but they seem to be phoning in their lines with no depth, impact, or charter development.  DiCaprio is very wooden in his performance.  It's as if he's reading his lines from some remote location and having them transmitted to a zombie clone of himself for the performance.

In general, this Gatsby has a sort of Moulin Rouge feel to it but it is flat, long, and boring.  I fell asleep at one point for about 5-10 minuets and didn't bother rewinding.

The only redeeming aspect of the film are the party scenes and they will no doubt become the new go to demo material at this years CEDIA and any brick and mortar HT shop for projector demo.  The party scenes are spectacular and IMO the only thing worth looking at in this Gatsby.

I did walk away wanting to revisit the book and maybe have a viewing of the 1974 Robert Redford version.

Picture quality is top notch, a very beautiful cinematic experience and sound. We really enjoyed it, different from everything else. It's definitely a Bluray to own. We watched it in 2D but heard the 3D version is very good for anyone interested.

3D in the theater was very good with this.

"Bring out yer dead!".."Wait I'm not dead yet!"..(Sound Austrian here) "WRONG !!" (You know what happens next..)

Spectacular looking, but over-long and over-blown. The cinematic technique swamps what is a very slight story.

Ditto.
And the commercialized hip hop R&B music did not fit.
I felt like they were trying to sell me a record.
If they wanted to add a modern music soundtrack, they should of hired someone to create it.

Demo material all the way in terms of video. Amazing detail, colors, contrast and shadow detail. This film will show you what your projector is capable of.

As for the movie, they should've left the Jay-z music out of it. Don't think he was creating hits back then. smile.gif

I'm looking forward to seeing this film, but waiting for prices to drop a little. The comments made here and elsewhere regarding the video and audio have certainly peaked my interest. cool.gif

Anyone having issues playing the 2D version of this on a Panasonic BDT-210 player? I have tried two copies from Amazon, and both discs just spin and never bring up anything on the screen. My firmware is up-to-date, and I have no issues playing any of my 400+ other BD titles.

Played fine for me on BDT-220. Try turning off some Network/BD Live settings in your player settings perhaps?

My mother-in-law said it doesn't work with her 210. We tried it on our 110 and got a black screen for 2-3 minutes before it loaded with the little logo showing that the disc was running. The logo graphic was all messed up, but the movie worked if we left it to run long enough. The disc isn't the problem since it works fine on the PS3.
