What ya got,

The titles Arrow (UK) are now releasing are amongst the very best restorations I have seen. Runaway Train, Zombie Flesh Eaters & The Time Bandits to name but a few look stunning with many more fantastic movies still to come. Anyone here collecting them?

I have been buying a few here and there as titles I have an interest in are released. So far I have Fall Of The House Of Usher ( which has slightly better picture quality over the release here as part of the Vincent Price Collection ), Who Dares Wins, The Car, Rififi and Obsession and plan on getting Time Bandits and some others. Eureka Entertainment's " Masters Of Cinema " series has some pretty good releases with great transfers as well.

It's a shame their earlier Argento releases were so poor. For years they were giving us complete junk. They have a lot to make up for.

I would have to agree, their recent releases have been far better in terms of pleasing transfers. I was immensely impressed with the new Time Bandits' Blu-ray from Arrow. They seem to be applying a little more care than Scream Factory has been lately.

I have the Wildside TENEBRAE, minus subs. It's amazing and easily the best looking (most filmlike) of the Argento Blu-Rays. It never fails to impress visually when I show it off. But the audio is just so weak compared to the 5.1 on the DVD. It's a damn crying shame that DVD was cut (damage to the source used) so the 5.1 remix cannot be lined up with the HD picture.

I'm guessing I know the answer already, but just to make it official: Arrow's releases are region-locked, aren't they?

...and I need your sweet love, Latina T-Mobile girl!

DVDfab or AnyDVD, my man. Use them. Love them. smile.gif

It's worth it when blanks are now so cheap. I can import the titles I like and simply create my own region free (non-forced subtitle) version and place it next to the official.

5 stars? So, in other words, it's a movie on a Blu-ray disc?

I have not seen it yet, but speaking to some of the guys who have, it is a stunning release free from DNR, EE and a fantastic encode. Luckily we do not have to guess at what it should look like, this is the real deal.

The vast majority of them, yes. Some of Arrow's older Blu-rays are region-free but they tend to be releasing titles they merely distribute for the UK these days, forcing them to region code their discs.

THE FURY is a weird weird film. Best head explosion of all time though.

The budget was fairly high so Depalma had all the money he needed for the best stock and lenses. I imagine the images he captured were exceedingly nice.

No not really I chose not to react and view a film as it should be seen and how It was intended, but if you choose to do other wise that is down to personal choice is it not.:)

There is a trick that allows Arrow's region-locked BDs to play on some Region A players. When the screen comes up saying your player is the wrong region, press "stop" and let it go to the player screen; then quickly press the "top menu" button. If it works it will take you to the main menu of the disc and you can now play it. This trick works on most of Arrow's Blu-rays.

It beats "Scanners"? Wow. smile.gif

Also, for anybody, is the Arrow web site the only place to buy the BDs?

No, you're really still not getting it. I can guess what you're going on about here, but that has nothing to do with anything discussed in this thread. You expressed amazement that this disc was given a 5-star score from a web site notorious for handing out 5-star scores like candy.

This is subjective and no one can truly state how a movie was to be displayed except the director.
Then they must come to your home and see if your viewing equipment meets their "intent." smile.gif

Apologies, In light of recent events I picked up on your comment the wrong way, however the 5 stars in this case look well deserved.

Arrow Video is really stepping up their game. They are becoming the main reason for Region A consumers to buy a multi-region player.

Robert Harris over on HTF had this to say regarding the Arrow release of  Time Bandits:

In preparation for examining Arrow's new Blu-ray of The Fury, I added a new Oppo region-free player to my battery of gear.

A quick setup, firmware upgrade, and ready to test.  My test disc -- Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits, an odd and delightful film, now somehow over two decades old.

I got the Blu-ray, because James White had performed the requisite transfer and clean-up necessities, and finally I've been able to take a quick look.

What I'm seeing, is in a word, magnificent.  Totally film-like, with proper original grain structure, and a beautiful rendering of color and densities.

This what one receives when a bona fide archivist is given the reins.  Think Sony and Fox.

A great fantasy from the always wonderfully odd minds Mr. Palin and Mr. Gilliam, now available in a perfect Blu-ray.

Tons of extras, and for those who delight in such things, a beautiful steel case.

Image - 5 (derived from an Arriscan of the original camera negative)

Audio - 5 (both original 2-track Dolby encoded, as well as 5.1)

With another world of regions out there, I can't believe it took me this long to go for a region-free player.

Highly Recommended.

RAH
