I was of the mind that it could be $35-40 so that didn't sound so bad ... but yeah, that's a lot.

There are plenty of more minor titles that cost more. Considering that Shout also put together some extras, it's not a bad price.

What is this madness? Sir Oinketh balking at a prices. What's next? Dogs and cats sleeping together? Hog feed must be tapping into those deep pockets. There's always the Universal version for $13.

Sad, but true.

I suppose so, it's just I am rarely interested in Extras.

It's a herd effort....everyone chips in a little (did I just say "chips?").

I have it.
The AV isn't great, but it's serviceable IMO.

Didn't realize you had the Universal version. I'd be hard pressed to spring for the new one too. The only version I've ever owned is the laserdisc from back in the day.

FWIW, I think it is a reasonably entertaining popcorn flick.
Baldwin does a good job IMO.

Although I rarely put much stock on reviews from this site, AINT IT COOL states: "this is a vast improvement to Universal’s original Blu Ray! The transfer is BEAUTIFUL! " FWIW

Looks like the Oinkman is gonna have to trade in a hog or two for the new Shout! version.

Doubt we'll see that. I was hoping for an AVS review but I doubt we'll see that either. SO I went to Amazon hoping for some early opinions. (not that I trust their customers any more than AICN)

A) The colors are bolder, the blacks are blacker and the overall balance issues of saturation and contrast has been almost eliminated. Sure there are a few cleanliness issues still left but it is a much nicer video and sound quality than the previous Blu Ray release. If you are a fan of this romp through pulp heroism then I would suggest getting the (Shout) factory version over the Universal release on Blu Ray.

B) Should you upgrade from the earlier blu-ray. Yes! The picture and sound on this new collector's edition is demo quality.. (I'm guessing a bit of hyperbole there. Even if it is an improvement, I doubt it's "demo-worthy." Naturally, I hope I'm wrong. )

$18 at Best Buy. That's a significant price drop and only a few dollars more than the Universal release.
