I've read a few different discussions (on other forums) about this topic but I haven't found any on AVS so here we go...
With the domestic USA release of Thor: The Dark World
on Blu-ray it seems that Disney has decided to discontinue the inclusion of a DVD copy with their Blu-ray combo packages.
The listings from Amazon.com include:
3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray + Digital Copy (download) on (2 discs)
Blu-ray + Digital Copy (download) on (1 disc)
However, it appears that Amazon.ca has a listing for a 3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy version:Thor: The Dark World 3-disc combo package
Now I know it might seem a bit anachronistic but I actually like having a convenient DVD copy included with my Blu-ray combo packs and I actually appreciated it when the studios started making it more commonplace. I use the DVD copy as a "travel version" or as a handy back-up if I am taking movies over to a friends house and for some reason their Blu-ray player balks at playback (you know, that pesky firmware / AACS key update thing).
For those that would argue that including it is forcing consumers to "pay for something they won't use" I'd counter with the fact that the 3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray combo pack is coming in at relatively the same price points as prior and other current 3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray + DVD combo packs. Either the surcharge for DVD is minimal (likely) or they just decided not to pass along the savings to the consumer when they sold less for the same price (also likely).
The question is, can anyone confirm or dispel whether the Canadian release will include the DVD copy or is that just a misprint on their part?
