Studio Ghibli Blu Ray Releases November 2014

I was just about to pre-order The Wind Rises, which originally had a November 2014 release date on Amazon but is now showing "Currently Unavailable". While looking at it, I saw two other Studio Ghibli films scheduled to be released in November of this year: Princess Mononoke and Kiki's Delivery Service.

Hopefully The Wind Rises really will be released with those other two. We really dug all those films, and plan on getting them all.

This will mostly complete Studio Ghibli's output on Blu-ray in the States. Considering they are in a state of flux, this could be the end.

The end? Supposedly it is only temporary halt for restructuring reasons.

There's a pretty big hole in the US releases on BD. Their arguably greatest film "Spirited Away" has yet to show up on BD in the US and is not among the trio of Ghibli films announced for Nov.

Spirited Away is not arguably miyazaki's great film... it IS miyazaki's greatest film.

and that is saying a lot because the other films by miyazaki are quite good. the fact that it has never been released is a travesty in itself.

This is the internet. Arguing is right after porn and kittens in priority. That said, it's my favorite Miyazaki film by a wide margin. That's why I shelled out for the Japanese disc. Worth every penny.

Spirited Away on BD comes out in the UK on Monday. U.S. releases usually follow a few months later so you can probably expect it here in early 2015.

I don't think I can wait for the US release of Spirited Away, so that means either the Japanese or the Hong Kong blu-ray release. In terms of English subtitles, video, and Japanese audio, is the Hong Kong release the same as the Japanese release?

Spirited away is available from england in stand alone format, you dont need to buy the boxed set... but the boxed set is magnificent.

The Wind Rises has shipped, in fact I received my pre-order yesterday from Amazon. Have not had the chance to sit down and watch it yet though.

I have The Tale of Princess Kaguya on pre-order as well. Difficult to find any release info on this one. It isn't and hasn't played in my area so I'll have to wait for the release.

I wound up buying the stand-alone Japanese BD of Spirited Away. Really worth the pricey upgrade from my old '03 2 disc DVD.

Some are complaining about dubtitles on the new Ghibli Blu-rays from Disney, particularly Kiki's Delivery Service.

Quick question, the BD you purchased has the same English dubs as the DVD? I think I'll order off of Amazon. I did see one on there recently.

Just picked up Princess Mononoke tonight! My full full price blu ray purcahse since forever. I usually always wait for sales...but I just couldn't. Only did a price match to Amazon.

Giving it a spin tonight! Probably my favorate Ghibli title.

The English subtitles on the Japanese Blu-ray are slightly different than the US DVD and seem to be more accurate.

From what little I have seen the newer Disney Ghibli are more noticeably scrubbed of film grain like Princess Mononoke as opposed to older disney releases like My Neighbor Totoro and the pre-Ghibli Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
