Excuse my ignorance on the subject overclkr, but in what way exactly do you use two G90's? And to what benefit?

No worries mate. I'll be "stacking" the G90's with one image overlaying the other to give me double the light output, and on off contrast ratio. It is THE killer combination right now.

I'm not sure, but I think the Ant Bully is the only Tier 0 title I have not seen any screen shots of.

I snapped a few this morning,
completely un-edited
... other than cropped and resized

Wow,
an unexpected surprise with Underworld Evolution

I finally tried a standard def DVD in my PS3
(instead of my Up-converting Pio DV490v player)

It's almost as good at 480p, (and letting my Plasma do its own conversion)
....as my BluRay version at 1080p scaled down

Totally un-touched photos , scaled down only.

Underworld Evolution Blu-Ray

Underworld Evolution SD DVD

The white washed out area directly below the eye has more detail when viewing in person in the Blu Ray version, so it must be a limitation of my camera.
Maybe there's just too much contrast in those dark scenes to pick up the detail

Can someone with a better setup, camera, player, display or all of the above
try to snap a pic of the same scene?

I have since tossed in a couple other SD DVD's
and the PS3 is definately the best SD player I have tried so far though.

the other SD players I've tried in the past were from:
Sony, Yamaha, Pioneer, and XBOX 360.. in that order, and the PS3 tops them all

Guess I better go back to my #1 reference pic of Scratt in Ice Age II
and try the SD vs BR in the same (PS3) player this time.

I may have an extra HDMI port real soon, upconverting player my arse
...at least it was only $100

I can see clearly the difference between the two pix. Make it bigger this time with Selene (don't ask) so it will be more distinct.

Gary you say the second shots are the BD? From these screen shots, it is closer than one would think. Look at her hair in the top DVD shot, and it has more detail to me than the BD. What say you?

I know you can't really rely on these screen shots. But, they show about what
I see at home. I would guess that Blu-ray is about 10-15% better that regular
dvd. That's it in my opinion and I'm alittle bummed.

Wow, those BD shots are phenomenal! I'm still at work and the PS3 arrived today along with KoH, Last Samurai and Glory Road. I can't wait to feed those into the 60" SXRD and check out the high def versus the SD up conversion I had been feeding it.

why aren't we getting any screenshots directly off a PC?? We had a member here who posted screencaps using the sony pc drive and powerdvd.

Doing a comparison between that and the DVD would really tell the difference.

I'm having a hard time getting my screenshots of the XBR960 to work out. It's not my camera - I'm using a Digital Rebel XT. The wife just got the camera for Christmas so we haven't had time to figure it all out.

Can I just say some of these screenshots are USELESS !!!!

Theres one person who got it right by cropping a picture so it was viewed at near 100%.

What your all doing is resizing the WHOLE image to pretty much dvd res, so how are you going to see the extra detail and resolution???????

you need to keep them BIG BIG images or crop them so there at 100%.

yes Blasst the bottom is BR, it has more detail in person, from these pics you can see that the DVD has massive amounts of false sharpness from EE, like the hair you mentioned, the BR is clean and free from that, also the BR has a nicer looking greyscale, the DVD is bluer

Well, I didn't think anyone would appreciate me posting an 8MP image. That, and I dont have anywhere to host something like that yet. I'll look into it though.

LOL, can you imagine the time it would take to load several
pages full of full res shots

One thing I've noticed when viewing at the office
(dual 20" 1600 x 1200 res monitors)

the 1000 pixel wide images are just barely larger enough for details
....the 768 ones really are nearly useless.

But when I got home,
the G/F has the low end 19" monitor set at 1024x768
and everything looks HUGE

Then I tried my 50" Plasma via the PS3 WiFi web browser and that
made the best size and res pic's

I have a Sony Trinitron 21" CRT monitor, a real beauty
I use 1024x768, so that is how I am looking at them, I guess they would be kinda small on 1600x1200

That does it. I'm leaving work to get a PS3. I'll be joining the ranks of the format neutral.

One of the best I have seen so far on both formats.

any use of sharpening or contrast filters even +1, is cheating. Photoshop cleans up image so well, even +1 sharpening filters should be considered altered and retouched photograph.

I say only post pics with resize or crop option as your only form of alteration, however even in this regard, photoshop would transition much more clearer in resize than a lesser photo program.

Its ok to "enhance" the pix as long as they put a disclaimer. The usual culprits from taking digital shots are oversaturation of colors and wrong levels of contrast and brightness.

Front PJs are hard to take accurate screenshots and you don't have a choice but change the levels to match what you see.

does enhance is another word for digital alteration?

in regards to camera work, a little tinkering with exposure time and such, is a much more accurate portrayal than having an imaging software like photoshop "retouching" the photographs.

considering that this is a screenshot thread of blu ray technology, Id like to see what the camera captures. once its touched by photoshop filters to improve the original picture, its no longer a real screenshot.

considering the pictures in question had no alteration other than "sharpness" anti's up to showcase an hd screenshot, how can you not think its improper in a blu ray screenshot showcase thread?

otherwise, its just as easy to snapshot an sd dvd and increase the sharpness with photoshop to simulate hd content. IMO Id rather see the original photograph

Unless you're calibrating your cameras white balance with a 18% grey projected imaged first you HAVE to post process in photoshop or your white balance is wrong and the image colors will be wrong.

You can guess at the right white balance but you won't often get it right.
As long as it's noted I'm ok with correcting what the camera does to an image.

Now find me a 18% grey card image I can display on my 65" mitsu and I'll do a proper shot of half these movies with my Nikon dSLR.

However I DO agree with the cropping statement. That truly shows the difference far better than re-sizing does.

PS3 & A2 = Format Neutral
