Fantastic transfer. The depth of image is great. A noticeable improvement over the SE. And the menu's are damn cool too For the $19 I paid, it was a steal.

...don't know....this is the first time I've seen it all the way through since I saw it in the cinema. I was impressed and the disc just cost me $20.

In real life I am Dot Mongur champion of the International Pacman Federation. I don't play the game, I operate it.....no dot is safe from me....

I thought it was ok, Some scenes really sharp, others lacked...could be my bulb going on the 3LCD, just seemed dim and flat most of the time.

I also thought it looked somewhat soft and dark.

This movie has the worst stair-stepping I've ever seen on a blu-ray!

How on Earth can people not notice that?

This transfer is the worst in history!

Definitely a mixed bag with the quality. I rented it and never bought it and not just because of the so so quality!

My impression...

I think the SD DVD would look better than this on a non-upconverting DVD player through composite cables. The farthest away I can get from my 40" TV is 10 feet and it's not enough to blur away the aliasing on text. Literally unwatchable. Any reviewer that didn't rail against this should be sued, and Lionsgate should be ashamed of themselves.

Is the stairstepping throughout the film or just on the text? I can live with it on the text.

The fact that you can't see the problem with this disc really makes me wonder what else you can't see "on your system." Young Guns is a really problematic disc... unwatchable, really.

Does your system not include a monitor of any sort? That's the only way I can wrap my head around you not seeing this problem.

Why, are you infallible? With this disc, at the screen size you are viewing, one of three things has to be happening:
A) you are not experienced enough to see the artifacting
B) your equipment does not resolve enough detail to reproduce the artifacting
or
C) your processors and scalers are processing/correcting the image to remove the artifacts.

Under any of those three options, I would have a difficult time ultimately trusting someone's opinion.

Remember way back when you were telling people about the blocking in King Kong and everyone told you you were nuts and the blocking didn't exist? This shoe looks kind of the same, except it's on a different foot.

TOTALLY agree... I blind-bought this title without reading reviews, and it was HORRIBLE, the jaggies/stair-stepping was in my face... I only got into about 10 minutes of the movie, and had to take the disc out and put it on ebay. Yuck!

It's in the first several minutes, for sure. I stopped paying attention, and just watched the rest of the movie. At the various times I looked for it, it was there.

I almost pulled it out, as another user did. Really, it's just terrible. My disc looks exactly like the photos someone else took and added here.

It's not just on the text, it's on everything.

I'm watching on a 50" screen, and it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Is there any chance that something could be screwed up on just 1080i and not the 1080p output? Are they different streams? I'm watching at 1080i.

A direct display of what's on the disc is going to be unforgiving for abominations like this BD. I viewed it with the 1080p/24 signal sent to my plasma display with 1:1 pixel-mapping, and the aliasing was horrendous.

I hope Lionsgate does a recall on this disc.

This is absolutely nasty beyond belief. Someone needs to write an article. This disc has literally scared me away from purchasing any disc without a review. It doesn't matter if this disc was part of a $15 deal. It's not worth $5!

Tell me about it. I paid $17.95 from Amazon for this abomination. Sort of goes to show you that bitrates and disc sizes mean squat without care and attention that go into proper mastering and encoding.
