The problem is, at this stage in the format war, any big blockbusters can make an impact. Can you imagine if Starwars and LOTR were released next month on blu-ray only and then released on HD-DVD in December ?

I do see your point though and perhaps it will help later on. Blu-ray will get the spiderman trilogy,Matrix Trilogy, Fantastic Four:Silver Surfer, POTC : AWE, Simpsons movie(maybe) before years end. I don't see to many HD-DVD Exclusive blockbusters for this holiday season.

Apparently you didn't read my post. I simply stated that this reviewer I do not put much weight in. We all know that blu ray can dish out some great looking titles. I will wait for some more reviews to come out.

As mentioned, BD-J is the theory, however "300" is getting released to Blu-ray without the required BD-J feature. Batman and Matrix will likely be the two top sellers on HD DVD (I think Batman already is) for a while anyway and I don't think Warner wants to give Blu-ray this positive. The PS3 crowd would probably go crazy for these two titles and really bump those Nielson numbers.

'300' is probably a similar case to 'Night at the Museum' - Day and date titles are being treated differently to catalog. As big as 'Batman' would be, it's still catalog - but I suspect that Best Buy and similar will carry it.

As long as Blu-ray can keep its nose ahead, as it has, while we wait for BD-J and BD+ to come in, the holiday season is going to be a BD owner's dream. Missing key WB titles, delayed Fox titles, all the Sony and Disney stuff, and some surprises.

Just to reiterate, if you have a Blu-ray Player, even if you paid $1,000.00 or more for it, it is extremely unlikely you will be able to get secondary video streams. That means no IME for you.

Why would WB release a title with a major feature that will be unplayable on every single player available....FOREVER? That makes no sense.

BD-j development will not magically make secondary video decoders in players constructed without them. The Blu-ray group came out and said exactly that in a press release. It's not opinion, it's fact.

Warner's is probably waiting for next generation players with secondary video decoders in them. The Blu-ray group, in their infinite wisdom, decided not to nail down several key components for CE manufacturers. Result? Early adopters get the shaft.

One of many reasons it's simply ridiculous to pay those ridiculoous prices for Gen1 players.

What are you talking about? The BD has the exact same extras on it as the DVD, including the Lost Disc.

That review is not accurate at all on the extras.

Ok, that's a relief. I'm assuming the same is true of Dead Man's Chest? That one had a bonus disc at Best Buy with additional extras. Are they on the BD too?

I just accidently ordered these from amazon.
These better have better PQ than Crank.

Knowing Disney and Bruckheimer, these shouldn't dissapoint.

Ridiculous codec tier sig gone. Still AVC/24bit lossless fanboy.

Studio quality tier
Most Major studios>Small Studios>dogs>cats>Warner(the guys that do new movies)

It would be wise to wait for a more legit review of these movies, one that is not a copy and paste and one that has a more objective viewpoint from a PQ standpoint, adding a jab about the Matrix in a BLU-RAY review only cements the bias.

I would like to know if the guy has a HD DVD player of his own or he just happened to see this title over a friend's house on an equipment that was not calibrated by him or the same source that calibrated his Blu Ray equipment. ???

I've got these coming from Amazon...I hope they ship in a timely manner, because I'm really pumped to watch them... I bought Dead Man's Chest on SD, it was one of the last SD's I bought...I couldn't watch more than 30 minutes of it since it looked like ass because I was used to HD... A great week coming up for high def...lots of great movies for me!

Yes, I have an HD-A1 and two HD-A2's. I do all of my reviews using my HD-A1 or PS3, through an Onkyo 604 into my Mitubishi HC5000. I use a Da-Lite 110" High Power screen.

This might be a stupid question, but how do I access the director/actor commentary tracks on the Blu-Ray version. I've seen reviews stating that it's there, but I can't find in in the menus...

Cycle through the audio tracks using your BD player remote. I just loaded up my copy in PowerDVD and the commentary tracks were English tracks 3, 4, and 5.

I'm trying in PowerDVD 8, but I only have 2x English, 2x Spanish and 2x French. No commentary.

Disk is ABC region.

Assuming you don't have the US release, you don't get the commentary.

Yeah, they ditched the commentaries on the non-US distributions to make room for more dubs. They also lowered the LPCM track from 24-bit to 16-bit.

The original US BD releases of Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest were also region ABC though and could be a solution if you're willing to fork out again for the movies (be careful about re-releases though, they could be different).

This fine wine is really good - it tastes like it was bottled yesterday!

Can anyone tell me how to enable DTS-HD MA in Curse of the Black Pearl. I finally have a receiver here that supports it, and now I can't find any option in the audio setup menu. It has the logo on the case.

PS. Other DTS-HD MA disks work fine on this system.

The top audio selection on that bluray is uncompressed (pcm) 5.1
No mention of DTS on the audio setup menu

The last one of the series " On Stranger Tides" was the only movie with a DTS-MA sound track.

Well it looks like they put the HD MA logo on my versions just to mess with my head:

My DMC as well:

That's twice they've cheated me now! biggrin.gif No commentaries and HD MA misprint. And 16 bit PCM on the AU version to add insult to injury.
