According to The Digital Bits, FUNimation announced at SDCC that they have the rights to Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, and are planning to reissue it some time from now on Blu-ray and DVD. No exact time frame has been given yet, but it would be nice to see this back in print.

That's good news. I hadn't heard that. I hope it gets better treatment than the Anchor Bay 25th anniversary BD edition of GITS received. I wasn't aware of the issues of it when I bought it. But, I also own every previous R1 release of GITS so I'm not lacking for options either.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the release by Funimation of the two seasons of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya!

GITS2 better get a proper dubbin or there will be fists a flyin! While we're on the topic, where is the Blu-Ray release of the GITS TV show? That one is a no-brainer and all they gotta do is put the package together with the Bandai stuff that they picked up ages ago.

What are the chances of the Naruto series coming to Blu Ray. I refuse to buy the DVDs because I just know it will come back to bite me!

I see DBZ has blu rays and even Bleach just got a Blu Ray released so this at least gives me some hope

Naruto - apart from the movies - doesn't really exist in HD form because the show was done in SD and later switched to HD down the line, so no series Blu-Ray release will ever exist.

How come DBZ made it's way to Blu Ray? It's only a matter a of time. I'd bet you anything that it'll come.... it's not a matter of IF it is more of a WHEN.

DBZ is much older and was created the old fashioned way, so it was a simple matter of scanning and restoring/retouching the frames for HD. Naruto was done in the early 2K years, so it most likely was done digitally, but certainly not in HD until the end. Apparently, the chubs behind Naruto did go back and "re-do" the show in HD as an alternative version of the Naruto anime, with heavy cuts and restructuring, but information on that is sketchy and contradictory, and it doesn't seem to be a legit remastering of the show.

DBZ was mastered to 16mm film which can be scanned to HD resolution. Naruto was rendered in SD resolution and mastered to SD digital tape so the best you'll ever see is upconverts.

Came across a great anime... Highschool of the Dead.... It's a zombie apocalypse film and is fun as heck... Sadly, there was only one season and the anime has no clear ending...

Heads up on a new release from Makoto Shinkai who made Byousoku 5 Centimeter (5 Centimeters per Second)... The new movie is called Kimi no Na wa (Your Name). I saw this and the movie is great!

The movie is about a boy and girl whose swap bodies for some unknown reason at random times. They try to cope with their situation and when the transformations stop, the boy tries to find the girl only to discover a horrible secret. As of October 8th, it is the highest rated anime movie ever on MyAnimelist and also the highest grossing anime (at 14.5 billion yen or about $145 million) in Japanese history, beating out all of Studio Ghibli's releases.

There is no release date yet for video.

If it's not a BIG screen, it's not a theater...

I watched High School of the Dead and 5 Centimeters per Second several years ago and absolutely loved them both. I'll need to keep a lookout for Your Name.

EDIT: I see "Your Name" has been licensed by Funimation. So at some point they should release a BD and also have it on their streaming service.

There's an OAV for High School of the Dead, too. Not sure if that's on that BD or not.

The OVA is NOT on the BD release... It is sold separately. The OVA itself was pretty crappy so i am not too concerned. From what i understand, the creator of HOTD had health problems and the manga was suspended. He released new mangas later but it had been sporadic.

High School of the Dead is good fun. I believe Hollywood has been trying to turn it into a movie.

I think I ended up watching the OVA from Youtube or some other streaming service. I have BD set at home. I'll need to look at it again sometime. I remember really enjoying it.

Some interesting news via Blu-ray.com today: There's a listing for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Season (2nd Gig) due February 21st from Anchor Bay, and there's already a listing for it on Amazon for $69.99. Details are sketchy for the time being, other than who it's from, the price, and that it's a Region A set.

I honestly thought FUNimation had this one, since they are doing the new Blu-ray of Innocence at that time. Whether or not this would be a substantial improvement over the DVDs has yet to be known, as is the reason why Season 1 wasn't first out of the gate (if Anchor Bay also has the rights to that season).

UPDATE: The Digital Bits now confirms the release of both seasons by Anchor Bay.

Interesting. Had no idea this was coming. Definitely looking forward to Innocence coming out on BD. I already ordered my copy.
