Anyone get the Chris Botti Blu-ray ?
Is so how is the PQ and more importantly how is the audio. Highdefdigest states the audio is at a unbelievable 96kHz/24-bit/13.8mbps 11.178 Gigs just for sound !!

Will this new concert blu-ray blow away my legends of jazz blu-ray Dolby TrueHD Track ?

Thanks for the help. OH and Best Buy has this listed for $17.99 but no store in my area has it
Amazon has it for $14.99. So for 1hr and 48 mins, this seems to be a great deal if you are into jazz

I just tracked my Chris Botti disc, it shows it arrived today. I'll give you a report tonight.

On a related note, I ordered "Pat Metheny Group: The Way Up - Live" today from Amazon ($16.95). I'm looking forward to this title as well...

But I do agree with you, I was very impressed with Legends of Jazz on BR!

Thanks. I am also considering just blind buying this just for the sound. I already know what the songs are as I am familiar with Chris Botti. But once you tell me how awesome this PCM track sounds, i have a feeling I will just go ahead and order.

Optimistic?

You might as well just buy it, it's cheap anyway.

I'll let you know how it is tonight.

Am I the only who thinks that these concerts are the most deserving of the hi-def audio and video treatment ?

If only my favorite bands (A Perfect Circle, Tool, Breaking Benjamin) would come out with hi-def stuff like this...

Trust me you aren't alone.
More concerts would be awesome. And for concerts they should keep 5.1 96/24 as a standard and use LPCM or Dolby TrueHD of course. One can only hope.

At this level of quality, I don't think any of them will "blow away" another, despite the 96/24 and high bitrate. I think we're now into audiophile level subtleties. I just ordered it, so I'll let you know if I'm wrong about that.

To date, Legends of Jazz is clearly my most enjoyable and most-played Blu-ray in my collection. If they suddenly started releasing concert discs on Blu-ray with TrueHD or LPCM, and with such a quality selection of content as Legends, I'd go broke in a month.

Thats what I like. Audiophile level. I guess i am an audiophile then. I have a good ear, probably from playing piano or something, and Legends of Jazz at its specs sounds very, very good. But there are some SACD's and DVD-A's that are still a bit better in terms of Sound Quality. Oh and i would go broke as well if more concert discs were released on Blu-ray with the quality of Legends of Jazz or better

Yes, it sounds really good but, as with the rest of the BD concert discs, there's too little musical interest for me to play them, other than to demonstrate the quality to others. Boring stuff, imho.

Okay, I'm watching it as I type this...

First off, the video quality is good, but certainly not tier 0 material. It's obvious this is a live recording as some of the camera work is soft and slightly out of focus. Based on the new tier ranking, I'd say it's tier 3 material. Some of the footage looks really good, some looks only okay. It's done in AVC and averages around 18 Mbps. If you have a display that has excellent CR, this disc looks very nice with the bright lights and deep blacks throughout.

Now to the good stuff... Let me be blunt and say the sound quality kicks azz. If you enjoy this kind of music, I don't think anyone would be disappointed based on what I've heard so far. The audio is 96kHz, 24-bit, 13.8mbps. I did compare the DD track to the LPCM track, don't waste your time with DD, but see my issues with the LPCM track below.

I'm also happy to report that unlike Legends of Jazz, there's about 1.5 hours of material on this disc (rather than 55 min. on LoJ), enough to keep me happy over a bottle of wine or two.

Now the bad. For some reason I noticed I very briefly lost audio many times throughout this disc, about 1 or 2 times per minute. When I would replay the spot where it would drop, I couldn't ever duplicate the audio drop. It's almost like my PS3 was having problems processing everything and wanted to catchup. I have no idea what was going on as I've never encountered this on BR or my PS3. I'm still using the original firmware that my early machine came with, but I'm going to do the FW update soon and see if this fixes it. I don't think it's a flaw in the LPCM track as I couldn't ever get it to drop in the same spot twice, but it's really annoying! I did switch over to the DD track and didn't have any problems. I'll do FW update over the weekend and see if this fixes the problem.

Despite the T3 video quality and the brief LPCM audio drops on my machine, the disc is still a good buy for the $.

And I will thank you publicly, again, for that recommendation! Love the Legends of Jazz disc. And as I also said before, the Chris Botti performance was probably my favorite (at least the top two), so this disc is mine, plain and simple!

Wet1, can do the audio dropouts happen randomly or at the same points of the performance. If so, can you post the times so others can try and I can try as well when I get my copy ?
Thanks

OH! Tool live with 96/24 5.1. My fav band!! I want to hear each of Adam Jones' amps with crystal-like imaging.

This disc is almost worth renting just to see if BD players properly handle the 96 kHz signal, in that the player actually sends a 96 kHz PCM signal to the audio processor over HDMI without re-sampling. I know that universal DVD players always get it right with decoded MLP at 96 kHz, but you never know.

Nothing wrong with it but it's just too laid back and predictable with everybody on their best behavior. Unexciting to me. No sparks. No inspiration.

Ah, I see what you are saying. It does come across as though they are lined up one after the other, get them in and out as quick as possible. It just isn't the same as a live concert for example.

Still, the music itself is excellent, and I really enjoy the disc.

Kal - I enjoy it for the music, but I can relate to your point... There's an emotion missing... and it's not just because it isn't live (although to Rob's point, that's no doubt a factor); i.e. Eric Clapton's studio DVD stuff still carries the emotion of the music... Anyway good comment -

that deal on deepdiscounts is amazing - free shipping too...

Say KAL, when I see you have posted I usually read yours- always-good straightforward thinking. [I know there is a thread about this.... but it isn't really printable to take to the record store]. Have or do you want to: give 10 suggest for great SACD/A everyone should have. In each categories> jazz. calassical.blues> what every you fallow. Yes- I know I'm lazy.
I have purchased a few of your recommendation-
Also, suggestion on the worst SACD/A recordings-not the artist but how badly is was pressed. Like (thinks it the John Coltrane SACD it was so bad I just threw it away)
I can't believe SACD/A will not take off sometime soon. A lot of people are now purchasing 5.1 systems to have a greater movie experience. So I can't see why not add into the mix a MCH experience.
