shouldn't there be a poll or something...

No, fwiw, none on any of the Blockbuster Titles either, although the label on 'The Fugitive' from blockbuster had bubbled and was peeling.

edit: I also live in the horribly humid south (Charlotte Area).

I agree. There's nothing wrong with determining if this is an isolated issue with the Prestige, or if there is something systemic.

I checked mine today. Didn't actaully pop the disk in, but zero visible rot.

I've owned this disk since it was released on BR. I live in hawaii, within a mile of the ocean, so high humidity/salinity causing this is not plausible.

I'd throw my bet to a bad batch of disks.

No visible issues with my copy of the Prestige. I've played it on a PS3 and stand-alone player multiple times.

I just checked my copy and it is spotless. Played it last night through a Sammy 1200 and it worked flawlessly.

Venom5 and MaxDam77, do you know if your discs were like this when you first got them, or did the spots develop later?

Also, has anyone else had this happen with a title other than The Prestige?

Hi Jason, can't remember if the disc had spots when I first got it, sometime in early April. Didn't have any problems when I watched it the first time, no freezing etc.

from the other thread.

I beg to differ, Joe Six Pack does not live in Hawaii within a mile of the ocean. He lives in the midwest.

An update. My The Prestige was bought from Amazon and I emailed them today about the problem. Within an hour got a reply from customer services saying they will ship a new copy to me ASAP. 3 cheers for Amazon, excellent service!

I live in Singapore and Amazon are willing to ship it postage paid and everything, I feel better already!

BTW, BVHE replied with a generic email to say they will like to know more but since I'm in Singapore to contact the local office, no real info from them.

Perhaps folks in the US can try to get an answer from BVHE, hopfully this is just an isolated batch and our other BDs are safe.

Checked all of my Blu-ray discs including "The Prestige." Not a scratch or hint of rot to be seen. Me thinks this is isolated to a bad batch pressing of one title.

Great news! I also bought it from amazon.com.

Can you discribe me the steps you followed for them to send you another copy?

Thanks in advance

Quite easy, bottom section of their site, click on "Visit our Help department"

At the help page, on the right hand side, click to contact them via e-mail

Under subject, choose "Receive Damaged, Defective or Wrong item"

Now you'll be allowed to search your orders, pick the order that contained The Prestige, and select that title.

Now add comments about the rot. I included links to the same pictures in this thread, but I'm not sure if they even looked at them.

You should get a very prompt reply from them.

Good Luck!

You won't know if it is systemic for 3-5 years down the road. Could be all those BD collections rot away in five years...

OMG! The Prestige got herpes from your Bluray player. You got raped!
On a serious note, your disc is probably defective. It's contaminated from bad manufacturing, germs got to the suface of the disc before the protective coating was applied. And overtime with heat buildup germs grew underneath the coating.

Are you serious, germs? Not oxidation of metallic alloy or something similar?

This thread had me running to check my copy of The Prestige. I saw nothing there but my ugly reflection. No rot for me, thankfully.

No problems with my copy as well (crossing fingers it stays that way). Maybe, as someone else posted earlier, people could start documenting those batches with the problem?

Now to check my LDs again.

Good News! Amazon is sending me a new copy. No charge! They made an expection because my order had more than 30 days.
And BHVEbluray.com is sending a prepaid mail to send them my rot copy. They will probably send me another copy aswell.
I'll end up with 2 copies of the Prestige.

Amazon will expect their original copy back, or they will charge you for the second.

Just got off the phone with a BVHE rep and they'll be sending out a prepaid envelope (about a week to receive), then i ship back and they examine and decide if i get a replacement (a week and a half i'd estimate), then they ship back (about a week) then i should have a "good" disc.

Not exactly prompt but oh well, wish i could just exchange it but it's been over a month and i threw my receipt out ages ago heh.
