Yes indeed, MrGonk. Well stated.

I never understood people preferring the Director's cut with no VO. Maybe some feel that the plot was dumbed down too much, but to go from that to none at all? Then there are the empty silences where the narration would have been. It all seems to throw the pacing of the movie off.

I'd heard that there will be some narration *throughout* the Final Cut. Not just at the end, but less than there was in the domestic and int'l versions. I hope that turns out to be the case, but that wasn't from any official source.

If not, then like joekun, the Int'l Version would probs wind up being my favorite. I'm just glad that we'll have them all and have them all in 1080p.

it's interesting that you say you heard there would be narration in the final cut... i remember hearing that possibility tossed around a bit, but that was a long time ago, and i've heard much more frequently that in the final cut, there will be no narration, with the exception of possibly re-instating the workprint narration over the batty death scene.

the one thing i heard more than anything was that the movie would be re-edited in spots, specifically for the purpose of shortening scenes where narration had been removed. this, i guess, was something ridley had wanted to do with the 1992 DC, but didn't have the time. so we got the existing scenes narration-less, with nothing but music. going on and on and on....

was there other narration besides the stuff that made it into the theatrical cuts of the film? i can't imagine they'd reinstate that.

"There's a... big machine in the sky... Some sort of... electric snake. It's headed right for us..."
"Shoot it."
"Not yet. I want to study its habits."

There was a narration during Batty's final scene. It was short and used in the workprint. It is different from the one that is current in the original cut.

So the way I understand it, Amazon doesn't charge you until they actually ship your order (for pre-orders).

Question is: How does the Warner Home Video Store handle pre-order charges?
Do they charge when you checkout on the pre-order or when it ships?

I'm thinking of cancelling my Amazon order for the BR: UCE (BD) to take advantage of the additional savings and add a few more discs to get free shipping.

Cheers,
Dave

I just ordered from WB so that I could order some other discs with the discount. My confirmation email says:

Quote:

If you have paid with a credit card please note that we don't charge your account until your order has physically been shipped from our warehouse.

I also noticed that it no longer says that all items will ship together (which never seemed to be their policy anyway). I did keep my Amazon preorder just in case they would hold all items to ship together in December, though I find that unlikely.

I read somewhere, long ago, that Ridley had kind of come around to the idea of the narration after the DC had been out for awhile.

Thanks for the coupon code. I bought this too as well as 2 of the "Best of Blu-Ray" Vol. 1 and 3 (already have a couple of movies in the Vol. 2 pack). This is a great deal.

Don't see the connection. 5 versions of a classic film in HD for less than $30...that's an incredible value. If you're a fan but unwilling to pay that price, there aren't many other BDs you would be willing to buy either.

For those that are fans of the movie, I suggest picking up the August issue of Empire magazine from the UK. 20 pages of interviews and pics. Fantastic.

That's not a bad price for either set. The Briefcase in High Def, I was excpecting well over 100.

Yeah, this is definately going to be a purchase for me!

As you can see, the pre-order price is in the $60 range for the briefcase, which is definately a collectable.

Thanks. The Blade Runner articles in that magazine were awesome. I recommended it to a friend and he also picked up a copy.

So, do we get PCM or TrueHD for all the cuts? Obviously, as per WB it probably would be limited to 16 bit-- curses!! However, this is the ULTIMATE Blade Runner, supposedly, and I wouldn't want just lossy audio!

If I want all the versions of B.R., but don't want the briefcase it's okay to get the five disc set... RIGHT?

Thanks!

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

Posting the cover art.

It's so cool that it reminded me I have to wait until December.

TrueHD=awesome.

Ridiculous codec tier sig gone. Still AVC/24bit lossless fanboy.

Studio quality tier

Was there not enough room for lossless audio for each version of the film? Even stereo lossless would've been nice, but they obviously remastered the audio on even the workprint in 5.1, so why not lossless? Because it would've been something that they couldn't offer on HD-DVD? It's likely that there is plenty of free space on the BD given Warner's past releases.

WB does not believe in giving Blu-ray the edge on anything even if there is room to improve on the HD-DVD encoding. In fact, if they can get away with it they'll find a way to drop better audio, etc. They did give the advantage to Blu-ray with The Sopranos Season 6 pt. 1 where the Blu version got PCM and the HD-DVD version got straight DD lossy, but seem to have back peddled and The Sopranos pt. 2 only has DD on Blu.

For me lossless on the Final cut version is good enough. I honestly don't see how ANYONE can complain about this set, the amount of time and effort that they have taken is incredible, I was surprised all Versions of the film including the workprint will be in 1080P. Add to that the Briefcase set is only 60$ and the 5 disc set is under 40$. Hell a Fox single disc BL-25 catalog releases retail for 40$ when they actually put out movies.

There is simply no room to complain, Blade Runner fans have gotten the ultimate release, with about every extra every put out for this movie and we got it for a great price.

I feel the same way. I see the other three versions as just what the back cover says, "archival versions". I'll watch these versions just for the sake of evaluating what I think about this movie's progression, and I will always accept the final cut as the definitive edition of the movie.

At the low price that Warner is charging, I'm stoked that we are getting lossless audio for the final cut along with the plethora of extras. The other three versions are just an added bonus. Also, we should be thanking Warner for spending the resources for restoring and remastering this gem of a film.

Yeah, this is only a good thing. I don't need conspiracies about WB keepin' BD down with no lossless on all versions of the movies.
