Just as I predicted about 4 hours ago, all Utah Best Buy stores are now sold out of all HD versions (blu-ray, HD DVD, with or without briefcase).

The plastic case is made in China.

My briefcase (HD DVD) is one of the 103,000 according to the sticker. How many blu-ray ones will be made. Same amount?

No, nearest one is probably 60-70 miles away as the crow flies, and being it's the SF bay area, probably about 2 days drive time.

I assume that they'll have different numbers available for each country? The sticker on the briefcase of my BD version said it was one out of 2500.

1 out of 2500? Wow...that's awesome. I wish that was worldwide....for the briefcase edition. If it is the case, then that thing can be worth $300 on ebay easily. I know I would paid that much if it was only 2500 copies.

check this out from amazon.com

Production Delay: Due to production and shipment delays from the studio impacting all retailers, this title will not be available to ship by the street date indicated above. We are working with the studio to get this product in stock as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Traffic really is that bad sometimes You'd have a better chance driving to the one near Sac. Isn't Santa Rosa near Petaluma?

I've had every version of this movie ever released, and last night while watching HDT on Comcast I saw a promo for the high definition release....and I literally just sat there with my mouth wide open. Can't wait to get my copy from Amazon!

Yes, Santa Rosa is north of Petaluma about 20 miles. I'll be in Sac on Sun, may check around up there.

If I don't get the briefcase edition it won't be the end of the world, probably ooh and aah over the stuff in it for about a day or so and then never look at it again. The films themselves are the important part, plus, I've got the HD-DVD version already on the way, gift for my brother, so I'll check it out when I give it to him.

The UCE would be nice sitting next to my WHV 1996 DVD version though, one of the first 3 DVDs ever released in the US.

Circuit City shows back order and Best Buy doesn't even list the BD UCE on their site. I've got a Suncoast in town, probably check there in the AM.

I just picked up my copy yesterday. I had a hard time finding the BD version though. I guess this sort of supports the Amazon page that said there were production delays in the BD print. Target had only the HD/SD versions, Barnes and Noble also only had HD/SD. Best Buy had the BD version but it was more expensive than the other stores. I ended up just buying it. I considered getting the HD version, but I really wanted the 1080P24 playback that I can't get out of my 360 AO and also my 360 just went RROD so I wouldn't be able to really watch it for a while anyway.

Well I didn't want to do it, but they forced me to, I just placed an order for the Collector's Edition on HD-DVD, no way of knowing when it will be available again, and HD-DVD was available so I went for it, 1 less for the Nielsen numbers for Blu-Ray, but the other 9 titles I bought this week has been Blu (most thanks to the BOGO).

My BD UCE shows being prepared for shipment at Amazon, and my CC has had a hold put on the amount, so that's encouraging.

hey dudes,

I picked up my 5 disc blu-ray set at Best Buy yesterday (non briefcase). They had 4 copies, and all 4 were ratteling with loose discs. I picked the one that rattled the least, got it out to the car and sure enough disks 2 and 5 were loose. Fortunately, disk 2 was perfect, despite being loose, without a scratch on it.

However, I was perplexed to see, not a scratch, but a very defined finger print on disc 5. Not sure exactly how that got there.

anyway, watched the final cut last night. its the first time I saw the movie in 10 years. man, what a great flick. I couldn't appreciate it when I saw it back in high school... it's pretty slow, but very artistic... very subtely detailed. a great great film

Just cancelled my recent order as I just realized that they won't send it until Dec. 24 using Free Shipping, even using Standard Shipping won't be out until Friday, so no way.

Sorry HD-DVD 1 less for you also on Nielsen this week.

Unless the scratches occur before the coating is applied, which looks to be the case with a number of sets I've opened thus far. These occurrences are especially troubling given how close to the surface the data is on a Blu-ray Disc. A slight scratch can have a profound affect.

Wow, I was thinking of just ordering from Amazon and waiting, but I'm glad I decided to pay more and drop in to a store and pick it up myself last night.

I'm glad I ran across it last week in BB. that way I didn't have to scrabble for it.

I just got the below email from Amazon,

Hello from Amazon.com.

We're writing about the order you placed on December 04 2007 12:01 PST
(Order# xxxx). Unfortunately, we are unable to ship the item(s) as soon as we expected and need to provide you with a new estimate of when the item(s) may be delivered:

Harrison Ford (Actor), et al "Blade Runner (Five-Disc Ultimate
Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray]" [Blu-ray]
Estimated arrival date: 12/24/2007

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this delay.

The rest of the email was just boilerplate crap. Looks like Amazon really underestimated stock requirements on this one. I'm not really liking the idea that my order is in non-cancel status, and the CC has a hold for the amount, when the shipping date is so speculative. I've encountered this before with Amazon and the estimated date keeps moving farther and farther out. Hopefully that won't happen with this item.
