Was going to give this a spin last night but ended up watching Sunshine instead. I'm a big KoH fan - love the early battle in the forest and particularly that big Germanic guy who gets the crossbow bolt in the throat. I find the Crusades quite fascinating and therefore thoroughly enjoyed KoH, despite some unfavourable reviews. Would also highly recommend Michael A Eisner's book The Crusader to anyone who is interested.

Ya know folks, someone should start a thread from time to time asking for off-the-wall favorites from everyone. Every time I see one of these "name your favorite movie" threads, I find stuff to stick in my rental queue that nf and bb never seem to recommend. I've gotten a lot of great movies from folks here. Stuff I'd have never found without seeing them mentioned either in threads like this or in the PQ Tier thread.

I just finished The Golden Compass, another great movie imo.

If you like those two, you really should get The Way Up, Pat Metheny's masterpiece. The PQ and the AQ are incredible.

Tough one. Without thinking too hard about it, my gut tells me The Dark Knight and Baraka.

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND

For so many reasons, but my top two are:
--Great filmlike transfer, with no DNR; it's like watching a print
--We get to choose which version to watch! (Lucas should take note)

Personally, I always choose the original 1977 cut of the film. I used to own the Criterion laserdisc of the same version, and it remains my personal favorite. I saw this original cut in theaters at age six, and it set me on the road that eventually led me to work in the film industry. I don't even think it's necessarily the strongest cut of the film (the 1998 director's cut probably wins that honor), but it's certainly the version that means the most to me.

A great, great blu-ray!!
