Boo hoo hoo. You'll just have to get up and change the disc after the first 2 hours. I weep for you in this time of profound tragedy.

Honestly, the best you got? I wouldn't waste my time starting with disc one on this peice of tripe, that doesn't however change the fact that this decision is stupid given the much touted advantage of BD50.

awww

Go cry to the director. HIS choice NOT the studios, not the media limitation, etc.

Fact the direxctor chose it for whatever reason. Don't like it. Don't buy it.

This thread has outlived its usefullness.

You're right, it's boiled down to do you like HD media or some idlyic notion of HD media. It's the former for me. It's obviously the latter for some.

Umm hello! Did you even watch Oliver stone mention that he wanted people to reflect on what they saw during the intermission? It was an ode to older films that ran long. That's how he intended it, to make you take the disc out and put another in. There will be many who will take a natural break at this point.

I can't believe this thread even exists. I hope Peter Jackson does the same for LOTR and Sony do the same for Lawrence of Arabia.

I'm with you! I don't want compressed video makin' it fit on a single disc. bIG movies, cut in half, is very likely a good idea at this point in the format for sure. Someday MPEG4-deee-luxe or super VC-1 might make what some folks desire, quite possible? Lo-ooooo-ng sides.....medium rare....

Oh, by the way, I own the DVD version, which I picked up yesterday for $9.99can vs $29.99can for the Blu-ray. I figured I'll wait until Warner sticks a True HD track on it. My PS3 upscales amazingly, so I'm pretty satisfied. Warner lost a customer. Lossless or bust.

I'll go on record saying I really liked the Revisited cut. But I'll also admit to liking Caligula, so, say what you will.

You know, with all the complaining here, you'd think the obvious one would be that Warner is clearly setting this movie up for a double dip.

1. Aside from the introduction, absolutely nothing. No extras, not even a much needed commentary by Stone to explain what he inserted back in, and why he did it.

2. This film has one of the greatest scores in cinematic history. It is absolutely beautiful, yet Warner loves us too much to provide a True HD track on it instead gives it a minor upgrade of 640k.

I've watched my copy now. I was very pleased with the Final Cut footage. The PQ was up to my expectations. The start of the second discs rather peeved me. I did not want to be threatened yet again by 5 years in jail and the F.B.I. That was so-oooo unnecessary!

eightninesighted, I'm not set-up for a double dip. I see no reason to buy this film again. I don't need better audio to enjoy it. I don't care if it's put on just one disc or even three for extras. It ain't a purr-fect release but it suffices.

$5 says, sometime in the next few years, Warner will release: "Alexander: Ultimate Edition". With seamless branching of the theatrical, Director's and Final Cut. Warner is the undisputed master of the double dip. Very clever of them to not include any extras at all in the final cut.

I don't even wanna see the theatrical cut ever again. Usually, I'm rather high on theatrical cuts. However, with this film the theatrical cut is perverted by censorship both in regards to time and content.

I wouldn't take your bet! You're right, I'm sure. I just won't be buying this film again. I only had to give a twenty spot for the disc....well, and $3 to ship it from Amazon. I feel like I did well.

I don't even know the point of an intermission for home video. THe theater is one thing, but not on DVD.

So long HD-DVD, I will miss you no matter how much I complained about Combo Discs.

Huh? This set is loaded with extras. It collects every single supplement from the previous two versions released on DVD and adds an exclusive commentary track Oliver Stone recorded for this version, which appears only on the HD-DVD and Blu-ray versions.

Have no idea what you are talking about.

The director wants a lengthy pause between the two halves of the movie.

Oh, the nerve of 'em to charge me $20 for a permanent rental of the disc set! I doubt I'll lose mine. Both discs come secure in a Blu box....

New cut of Alexander - fourth cut - coming next year on Blu-Ray. Probably going to be another multi-disc release but it should have lossless audio this time.

I don't know what they are calling it but the term "Ultimate Cut" has been tossed around by Oliver Stone in the interview where he revealed it's existence.

Other than trying to milk more $$$ out of this, I don't know WTF Stone is doing here....
Alexander latest release is just fine.

The biggest issue with it, from my POV, is the miscasting of Colin Farrell as Alexander.
No "new cut" will be able to get around this.

We can re-cut the movie so that it's told from third-person perspective and cut out all the scenes where Colin's talking or emoting. It will definitely be a short film.
