Has anyone with a stand alone player been able to get Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer to run. I just get a screen telling me I need a firmware update.

I have the Samsung BD-P1200

I think going forward with BD+, someone will have to create a graph with all of the BD+ movies and what players they work on and what level of firmware is required for the working ones....this really sucks and I'm just looking forward to profile 1.1 and 2.0 compliant movies.

Not to rub salt in the wounds, but the BDP1000 can play it.

I got a warning screen that the firmware wasn't optimum. After clicking through the screen and waiting an excruciatingly long time for it to load, it went on to play with frequent stutters....but it did play.

All of this science is hurting my brain!

Nice. That help the little people regret their purchase. To be honest, my kids wanted this and I took one look at the "advanced game" crap and knew it was going to be an issue. I'll consider it again after some solid reports on the 94HD. $30 compared to $14 is stupid anyway.

You guys need to go after the manufacturers of these players. It's the classic chicken and egg routine. If Fox waited for the hardware companies to provide compliant players, it would never happen. (Because some hardware companies don't really care about features that aren't available on any titles.) This is the swift kick in the behind these companies need to get their act together.

I'm guessing there will be firmware updates to fix what should have been there all along.

Hold up there! The last Pioneer firmware made players slower.

No need to get belligerent, you sound like a spoiled brat. I'm sure you just need a firmware update. You should contact your player manufacturer and express your discontent with their support. This is not a format issue but an issue with a couple of early players.

Contact your hardware manufacturer!

Do you believe that it is unreasonable for someone to expect their expensive video player to work? How much more anti-consumer can one get?

It took 2 mins to load on my Pioneer 94.

It loaded slightly slower than most discs on the PS3 but did fine.

NO, not at all! I think you and anyone else who is having an issue with their player has a right to be upset...at the player manufacturer for not providing a timely firmware update.

I don't see the need to immediately bash the entire format because of a player issue; which was my point. I am certainly not calling you, ditch_digger, or any other member a name. I am saying you need to be able to react in a more civilized manner.

Like I said, call Samsung and tell them to get their butts in gear and get a firmware update out there. I'm sure if every owner with an issue calls Sansung something will get done about it. Bashing Blu-ray as an entire format will likely serve no purpose other than to get all the HD DVD fanbois riled up and posting anti-Blu-ray comments in here.

Do you see where I'm coming from on this?

I have the same problem with my BDP 1000. The frequent stutters ruin the movie. I watched the first half hour of FFROSS and shut it off. What a damn waste. I hope Walmart will let me get my money back for that P.O.S. Damn you blu-ray.

I understand, but it works both ways. It is a format thing, however. The combo issues were format and the BDJ issues are format. They need to fix all parts of the formats for them to ever take hold. It is still early, but I haven't had a HD DVD issue in a while, BD is still a problem for everyone that doesn't own a PS3 and this disc even slowed the PS3 down it seems.

Not trying to minimize anyone's frustration but being an early adopter often means having to live with annoyances early on.

I completely agree that for either format to hit mass market they need to have all the bugs worked out and be completely plug-and-play.

I have no doubt that stabilization will be what we see improving most next year. It will be more about having a consistent experience regardless of price point.

Watching it now... so glad I bought a PS3. But seriously, nobody should complain if they haven't loaded the most recent firmware updates.

its not like there are 100s of different combinations of players out there. Some form of QC should exist to see what firmware should be updated. Is it the studios job to test the title, or the manufactures? If the manufacturers, do they get the copies in time to do a test?

Tell me about it. My Xbox (360) has done a 360 4 times now back to the mothership for repairs. I have written it off completely and no longer use it as it has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to be completely unreliable. It is far and away the most unreliable piece of electronic equipment I have ever owned.

I could not recommend it to anyone due to reliability issues.

Agreed 100%, However no slow downs on the PS3 ( 4 buds from work tested the movie today and no problems or slow down on PS3, loaded to the menu in under 15 seconds) and everything worked fine.

I believe that new XBox 360's with 65nm CPUs are starting to show up. Might want one of those instead since it'll run much cooler. I've read that new Halo 3 Xbox 360 consoles with lot numbers #734 have been confirmed to have the newly new 65nm CPUs in them.
