I would put Hellboy in tier 0. The overall sound was amazing, and the LFE in particular

Underworld of course sounds fantastic. There is not really one stand out area as far as the sound on this disc as it seems very balanced as far as highs, mids, LFE. Just a great, LOUD, balanced mix.

JVC 3D: Been there, done that, bought a DLP

Watched House Of Flying Daggers the other day and I would not put that in Tier 0 or Tier 1 based upon those already slotted in those categories. More like Tier 2 would be my rating for AQ.

Watched X-Men Last Stand last night. I could only have the volume turned up about three quarters in comparison to most other BDs I watch in this genre. Wow! Definitely Tier 0 and not just because of the volume. The surround sound is superb!

BTW though, I was a bit disappointed with the PQ. I have the SD DVD and this BD was not a large improvement over that.

will need another vote for either 0 or 1 on this title.

i think it was MPEG2 done on BD25 for X-Men 3.

as for HoFD, i will wait for more opinions on it before possibly moving it to another Tier.

Just a reminder to folks that louder doesn't always equate better. (Neither does "lots of bass" mean good soundtrack) I noted that you said "not just because of the volume.", but it seemed a good reminder anyway. :-)

My import copy of Curse of the Golden Flower has a much louder Dolby Digital 5.1 than my Blu-ray disc but once the levels are matched the DYNAMICS are much better. As is the seperation, quiet sounds, and mid-bass. (I find the lowest bass to be pretty close. Probably because the wave lengths are longer for low bass compared to high sounds so compression doesn't effect them as much.)

Close encounters had some very good scenes. The bass at times had me looking at the ceiling wondering if tiles were going to start dropping. I was hearing rattles from all over the house. This is a great title to use if you're not sure your sub is working.

BTW

Add Transporter 1 and 2 to tier 0 please. Even though 2 sucks in terms of a movie, it sounds sooooooo good.

Only watches movies on celluloid in the DOP's personal home theater.

SD.

I reread my post and I think I wrote it in a confusing manner. The Blu-ray disc sounds much better than the SD, even though the SD was the "louder" soundtrack.

I'm definitely looking forward to Live Free Or Die Hard after reading the review on HDD as I'm an audioholic!! It definitely rocked in the theater and I was curious as to how the audio track on the BD would be.

BTW, Where oh where is Master & Commander??

Transporter series placed in tier 0. Hope you guys listened to it and loved it as much as I did. Too bad the second film was rubbish.

Also, Shooter should get some kind of honorable mention for a DD 640kbps track that sounded good to great.

Only watches movies on celluloid in the DOP's personal home theater.

I will be looking to rent from Netflix and Blockbuster lots of True HD and DTS HD Master BDs since I can now bitstream those audio tracks on the Panny BD30 I recently bought to my Onkyo SR605.

I'll put Transporter into my queue and thanks for the recommendation.

Stomp The Yard in True HD is awesome as well as Spidey 3. Tier 0 easily!!!

Watched Planet Of The Apes last night with DTS HD Master audio on the Panny BD30 and Onkyo SR605. Very nice. I'd give it a Tier 1 rating. The PQ was quite acceptable also.

AVP in DTS HD Master is unbelievable! Watched it last night for the first time and the audio really grabs one's attention. I never thought much for the movie content with reviews I had read about it in the past but it really wasn't bad! One really never knows about that until they view it for themselves.

Give this one a try! Outstanding! Tier 0 all the way for the audio!!

I was reading the last issue of Home Theater magazine and was stunned to see they gave Underworld only 3 out 5 stars for audio.

They said:

Quote:

The uncompressed PCM 5.1 sound is inconsistent. Some scenes are amazing, with bullets whizzing this way and that, followed by a scene where the dialogue is slightly covered or sounds like it was recorded in a hallway.

I was speechless reading it based on the high praise so many others have given the PCM track.

Can vouch for Transporter 2 in tier 0, although as most of us agree the movie was horrible...
I have yet to watch Underworld (just picked it up) but Underworld:Evolution gave my 5.1 a pretty good workout...
