I'd give Die Hard a Tier 1 rating with DTS HD Master. Enjoyable enough but not in the upper echelon. There are a few solid room shakers so to speak but I just didn't get the wow factor throughout that I've gotten from others.

I don't have The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on BR yet, but I did watch it the other night on DVD, and there is very good use of surround and LFE. I can't see how the BR version could be any worse.

XBL & PSN: BikerTrash525
My Xbox 360 doesn't have a built-in HD DVD player, and that makes me blu.

Played Live Free or Die Hard last night on my theater. This one is definitely top notch for the audio using the Panny BD30 and Onkyo SR605 with DTS HD Master. Very nice surround track, not too overbearing. The dialog was very clear and distinct.

Totally engrossed watching this one as the PQ is excellent also. I rather have an unrated version but this title is just too darn good to pass up for me. Die Hard is a better movie per se but the picture and sound were not up to the quality of this one unfortunately.

the original unrated version. Evolution isn't bad either but it can't hold a candle to the new one. Evolution needs a remaster in both video/audio (tho it was good on both fronts to begin with, especially considering it was released during blu-ray's infancy, the days of the old T5E) to be on par with UW Unrated.

I would vote Harry potter and the Chamber of secrets as tier 0.
Harry potter and the prisoner of Azakhban as tier 1.

Legends of Jazz Showcase with Ramsey Lewis should be at the very top of your list. It is incredible. I use it now in place of SACD to show off my audio system.

Just about every track will wow you, but listen especially to the tenth track with Jane Monheit and John Pizzarelli (They Can't Take That Away From Me), the first track with Al Jarreau (Take Five), and the sixth track with Robert Cray and Keb Mo (12 Year Old Boy).

It is a masterpiece.

I absolutely agree 100% Best sound I've heard in my Theater. And Excellent picture quality to boot. Extremely dynamic/aggressive Bass as well. My new demo disc hands down.

Watched T3 - Rise Of The Machines last night. The PQ was very very good but the audio is what stands out during playback. It just adds that much more to the experience. I definitely needed to tone it down a bit from normal listening levels to be considerate of adjoining apartment dwellers. I never expected it to be quite this good! I would have to say a solid tier 1 overall and for those who have better equipment, you my even bump it up to Tier 0.

I concur on Live Free or Die Hard. I can only get the core 5.1 track, but even with that I'd place it in tier 0. It was an absolutely incredible soundtrack. Great panning, a wide spacious "put you there" soundfield, clear dialog, loud/realistic gunshots, "boomstick" worthy explosions etc.

^^^^^^

I'll give the sound for Blade Runner a high Tier 1. Now this is a Vangelis soundtrack and it is very very good and well done but I'm unsure folks would agree it is amongst the best they have heard.

I'd like to nominate Pat Metheny: the way up Live for tier 0

This was the first title I have watched in DTS-HD MA and I can honestly say I have never experienced audio like this in my home theater from a concert DVD.

This is a must see for any fans of Pat Metheny, Jazz, guitar, or anyone that appreciates amazing musicians...

No dts-HD HR discs in the list: is that because no such disc exists or none qualifies for inclusion?

I don't quite understand the nomenclature "DTS-MA = DTS 1.5Mbps core track" and some listings have 'DTS-MA core', presumably the same thing.

"dts-HD MA (core)" would be unambiguous.

Audiosceptics accept audio trials using 25 people. A recent Oxford study with over 353,000 patient records from 639 separate clinical trials shows for every 1,000 people taking diclofenac or ibuprofen there would be 3 additional heart attacks, 4 more cases of heart failure and 1 death every year.

it's prob a bit confusing b/c not everyone who list a title specify whether they listened to the core track or lossless track.

Then could you please insist on people giving precise track information (in particular, dts-HD MA or dts-HD MA (core)) when they nominate a title and make it a pre-requisite for inclusion in your list. Thanks.

A little noob question. I am not home right now so I cannot test it. How does Blu-Ray Dolby
Digital 5.1/DTS 5.1 differ from DVD Dolby Digital 5.1/DTS 5.1 via optical? Does Blu-Ray use
the full bit rate of Dolby Digital or DTS? Also, what's Dolby Digital and DTS full bitrate?

There is always someone out there that gives you opinion of a product that they don't even own.

OK

AC/DC: Live At Donnington(LPCM)--- Tier2 Weak bass, guitar hard mixed to the right channel, and overall very harsh. But then again it's Hard Rock.

Kingdom OF Heaven Dir Cut (DTS HD MA) Tier 0 reference quality all around

The Descent (LPCM) Tier 0 Very atmoshpheric and dynamic when called for, excellen balance.

Tears Of The Sun (LPCM) Tier1 A bit of a mixed bag with bass and jungle noise, being less then consistent. The last 30 mins will make thing up.

Immortal Beloved (LPCM) A bit of a let down for me as being a big fan of the movie and the music of Beethoven. The music sounds a little dull to me, though not terrible or anything I was just hoping a little better after I owned this on LD and DVD both which sounded very good. A good balance between dialog effects and music Tier1

Troy Director's Cut (LPCM) Tier 1 lowend. Just not very exciting and a little shy on bass. The HD DVD's True HD has more bass and life to it.

Crank [LPCM] Tier 0 Fun Fun Fun, very agressive, very dynamic and very clean. reference sound.

Black Hawk Down (LPCM) Tier 0 The quintesential war movie sound, a two hour aural assault!

Fifth Element [Dolby THD] Tier 0 Finally I could see this and hear it like it was meant to be. I own the SB SD DVD and while the picture was remarkable for a DVD the sound was just not what I would call reference. All that change with the BD version.

Pirates Of The Caribbean AWE (LPCM) Tier1 Inconsisten bass makes this just shy of tier 0 IMO Everything else was examplary.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (LPCM}--- Tier 0 Another of favorite of mine. A clear step up from the already excellent DVD

Casino Royale (LPCM) Tier 0 What can be said what hasn't been said yet?

The Patriot Extented Cut (LPCM) Tier 1 It sounded excellent but I just can't recall a single very exiting aural momment to give it Tier 0

Live Free or Die Hard (DTS HD MA) Tier 0 Wow what a ride, just like Crank, it's a very exiting track, great bass as well.

Spider Man 1.2.3 (Dolby THD) Tier 0 All three movies are top notch when it comes to sound, and part 1 and 2 are a clear step up from the SB version I own too.

That's it for now.

sent via Morse code...........
