At the last council meeting Yoda told me Anakin had stolen the original film material so he could build his own format empire to destroy all other HDM. We are working with other systems to track him down and recover the material.

I ordered mine from amazon and wouldn't you know it, George Lucas showed up in in giant ewok costume to deliver it. He asked to come in to watch the movies with me but he creeped me out.

At the rate George released them on dvd, look to 2013. Oh, and they could be hd dvd only if George decides. He has complete control of these films...

After the slap in the face Lucas gave us with the "original untouched Trilogy" DVDs, I will not spend another dime on a Star Wars movie again.

Supposedly the Star Wars movies will not be available until the format war ends. (However, Lucas frequently changes his mind, so nobody really knows...)

Never been asked before.

SW is being released tomorrow. Only 500 copies available and only through secret sources. You have to search the 'net for the two stores selling them.

LOTR? that's coming out in 3 days. 750,000 copies. available only at best buy stores in western Montana.

Oh, BTW, every other movie you'd like to see on BD is coming out the week of Christmas, including Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, Godfather series, and Indiana Jones.

All this fun aside, there are a million old posts on this and no one has a real answer, only speculation. But the most credible posts I read pointed out that Lucas is better off waiting for a critical mass of players/customers so he can do one big marketing blitz and sell a bizillion copies at once than to release it for the early adopters and get a slow trickle of sales as people gradually adopt the players. I buy that, much as it sucks to wait...

It will be some time before we see the BD version. George wants maximum profit. So they will wait until BD/HD has reached or is near its peak then put them out. Which was about right for DVD as DVD sales have gone done the last few years.

Maybe LOTR could be announced this year since Peter Jackson and New Line worked out their issues. Hopefully we won't have to wait til 2010 when the Hobbit comes out.

This is news to me, and good news at that!! Finally, get me some LOTR in HD.

Anyhow,

I have been watching star wars in HD for a while now. They have been playing it on HBO-HD for a while, and let me say that I don't know how they got a hold of it, but the transfer just looks SO AMAZING!!!! They really did a good job in the transfer on HBO-HD.

My question, how can a broadcaster get a hold of something like Star wars in HD?? Does this mean that star wars has already been mastered for HD? The picture is amazing on my SXRD, and that TV can definitely show the difference between crap and the goodness, and Starwars on HBO is definitely the goodness!!

Are you on Comcast or dish?? On Comcast it looks like poop. Episodes II and III look better on upconverted SD-DVD being filmed all in digital IMO. I see small tiles on busy scenes and mucho grain in several others. Comcast is probably the culprit.

On a serious note we know it took Lucas forever to release SW on DVD but he also said he'd never release the originals (before he messed them up) on DVD and then did a short while later. With a full screen version not to be worried about it seems like it would be less work and he seems to like to milk these movies for every bit he can get from them so I wouldn't be surprised if we saw them next Christmas or something. Especially if the format war is waging on he may look at that as a way to sell copies in both formats and get more $$ vs. selling to the wining format after it ends and still having to wait for the other side as well as new consumers to adopt the winning format.
