You know what is funny...every couple of weeks I complain to Blockbuster about the long wait/short wait for blu-ray movies and rather nicely they respond by giving a free in store rental. Nice of them. Except the store I use dosnt stock blu-ray.
So I was wondering if everyone who reads this post will stop renting blu-ray from blockbuster so I can get my movies in less than 3 months.
thank you and God bless!:

I reconsidered and cancelled altogether, as I have no need for two rental subscriptions.

The last three titles they shipped me were all Blu-ray (two of them "long wait"), and "Resident Evil 3" (it's Profile 1.1) won't play with PowerDVD Ultra, even after a clean install of Vista and upgrading the PowerDVD OEM version to the latest retail build. I may have to ship this one back unwatched and get a DVD from Blockbuster.

Blu-ray: 50+
HD-DVD: 23
DVD: 600+ and lost count

Everyone needs to monitor their own specific situation and decide what to do. There are more folks who bought a player so it is getting increasingly more difficult to rent BDs. I haven't cancelled yet but may at least suspend my membership after March. I want to try to get some of those BDs as this upcoming month has many I'm interested in.

I rent both BD and HD-DVDs, so I have a mix of both in my queue. I can't remember the last time I received a movie in my top 10 spots in my queue. I usually get movies in the 18-24 slots.

As a result, I am getting lots of fair-to-good movies, but I rarely get any of the VeryGood-to-Excellent movies. I am having to rent these locally.

I am thinking of reducing my membership to 1 at a time. I want to watch the movies I choose, not the ones that no one else wants to see.

Of course right after I posted that it went in the crapper.

I had canceled before and just did it online. I went to cancel again, before the announcement, and was told to call a number.

I called and complained about a lack of bluray. The CSR told me they were fixing that with the new announcement and gave me a month free to wait it out.

We'll see.

I just called netflix and complained about not getting any of the blu-rays in my que. I mentioned that I was thinking about trying blockbuster's online rentals for blu-ray movies and the netflix rep very nicely stated that I should try other services to see which one works the best for my money, but netflix hates to lose any customers. He did not offer my anything to stay.

He did say that netflix is committed to buying more blu-ray movies now that toshibia is dropping HD-DVD. I asked him about how many blu-ray movies netflix has at each distribution center for each title and he said he did not know but figured netflix buys about 100 blu-rays and divides them amongst all 47 distribution centers. That would only be about two blu-ray disks per distribution center but that number has to be too low so I assume that he really does not know how many.

Third BD in a row for me. After the slow turn around because of the weekend+holiday, I finally sent Wall Street and Gone Baby Gone back and am receiving Rush Hour 3 tomorrow (which was long wait I believe).

3 is a trend I believe.

Agreed, and I am seeing the same thing, now lets just hope it continues.

Woohoo, they finally shipped my Michael Clayton bluray.
I think I was lucky though because the other blurays in my queue are still "very long wait"

bastards.

Returned 2 over the weekend and had Michael Clayton #1 and Valley of Elah #2 on my list. They sent me Elah but not Clayton.
Instead they sent me one I had further down on my list that was long wait. (No Reservations)
I guess it is getting better but it couldn't have gotten much worse so depends on how you look at it.

For the first time ever, I see a relativey new blu-ray release as available "Now" (Mr. Brooks).

Of course I don't have an open slot though.

Also, with HD-DVD officially dying, I'm sure more people will buy blu-ray players -- so it may get worse again real soon.

I've got both on the way - should be here today!

The last movie I got had a new return address in the city where I live rather than one 200 miles away (Denver). Don't know if Netflix has made changes with the post office or if they are opening up new distribution centers. Either way, quicker return times!

Yeah, this recent "trend" may be very short-lived for me.

A lot of my BD items went from "Long Wait" to "Short Wait" but unfortunately they are STILL skipping the titles and going down to the DVDs.

This is why Netflix really needs to ramp up blu-ray purchases. There could be a lot more people like this guy:

Since the no more HDDVD announcement I have been sent, Bourne ultimatum, Simpson's, the guardian, the invasion, santa clause 3, the last pirates of the Caribbean, ghost rider, blood and chocolate, and the 3rd shrek.

less than a month ago I would've never been shipped those movies.

Okay, last night I see that two blu-ray discs (which happened to be numbers 1 and 2 in my queue) are available "now". They are "3:10 to Yuma" and "Mr. Brooks".

These two discs were "long wait" or "very long wait" for the last few weeks. So I'm thinking great, I'll finally get one of those shipped to me today.

So what do I get shipped today? The number 7 disc in my queue -- which is a standard DVD (not available in blu-ray) -- "Rendition"

*$^%&#$#^# How does that happen? It makes no sense.

I'm thinking that maybe Netflix's algorithim may favor standard DVD; regardless of where it is in your queue????

So to get blu-ray discs I might have to remove any standard def only discs from the queue.

Anyone else see that?

After Netflix announced going bluray exclusive, I immediately noticed tremendous movement on my queue. I'm getting brand new release titles on the day of the release now. Michael Clayton, Gone Baby Gone, all shipping so fast.

Also, all those long waits are now changed to short wait.

Sweet.

Unfortunately not much has changed for me. Still long to very long waits on most of my first 10 titles in my queue.

Blu-ray / HD DVD Collection: 567 Titles

In your settings, did you set bluray to be your preferred format?

You don't understand. This has nothing to do with preferred format.

The disc they sent me is NOT released in blu-ray. So the only possibility is DVD for that specific disc.

Its not that they sent me a standard DVD of what should have been a blu-ray film -- its that they sent me the only standard DVD in my queue, when it was way down in my queue at number 7.

They by-passed the available "now" blu-ray discs, higher in my queue.

And yes, any disc I put in my queue that is available in blu-ray format is indicated as blu-ray. It is my preference. It happens automatically.

I don't know then, that never happens to me, call and complain about it... It does say in the terms section that the movies are always changing in and out of available so maybe even though it said on the page it was available, maybe it got shipped out to someone else before you and the website hadn't updated it at the time.

BTW Live free and die harder is shipping today, another top movie that has shipped for me.

Happened to me yesterday as well.

I actually had Rendition (Showing - NOW )in the #2 spot, and was shipped 3:10 to Yuma (Showing Short Wait) from the #6 spot. I have no idea....

Things have been fine for me. I also notice that anytime a Blu movie in my queue says "short wait" I find it still ships in its position. Its happened with Clayton, Jesse James and Across the Universe. All of those said "short wait" but when their time came up they came next day and still got shipped to me.

I'm glad someone has good news.

My queue reads like this:
1 Michael Clayton- Very Long Wait
2 The Assassination of Jessie James- Very Long Wait
3 Gone Baby Gone- Long Wait
4 In the Valley of Elah- Long Wait
5 Crimson Tide- Very Long Wait
6 Babel- Long Wait
7 Planet Earth: Disc 1- Long Wait.
8 - 10 Planet Earth: Disc 2, 3, 4- Now

I have a disc arriving back at Netflix Monday. I wonder what they're going so send out if anything. I sure don't want to start the Planet Earth Collection with Disc 2.

All but 4 of my 52 BD in the queue are now available. Cool. Half of them were long or very long wait just yesterday.
