Non-Stop has been at the top of my queue in "Very Long Wait" since it was released too and I've tried taking it out and re-adding it.

Has the new Dolby Atmos sound track. Bass is back! I live in a townhouse. I'm surprised the neighbors weren't at my door.

anybody know if Penny Dreadful Season 1 will be available on bluray through netflix?

I'm not a member, so I can't do a search on their selection to find it (unless I missed it...).

Thanks.

I just tried adding it to my queue, and it came up as Blue Ray discs and says it's available Tuesday. OTOH, having seen it on Showtime, I never want to see it again.

I guess that's why they called it dreadful.

It is listed as being released on 10/07 if it is added to the queue. That generally means that Netflix does intend to stock it. Of course, Netflix has changed course in the past, but as of right now it does appear that yes, Penny Dreadful on BD will be available through Netflix.

I thought I got Aliens on BD sometime last year or maybe earlier. Whenever I had purchased the Alien Quadrilogy.

My receiver interpreted the ATMOS soundtrack as being TrueHD, but the bass was still pretty intense.

Yeah, mine stayed in Very Long Wait for a few days but then all of sudden there was no wait and I got it yesterday.

You need a Dolby Atmos enabled decoder to read the extension file packet in the TrueHD data and reconstitute the full immersive soundtrack. Got the money for a high end processor? Home Atmos soundtracks will render to 34.1 (24.1.10) outputs!

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

I understand that, but I've never been all that impressed with TrueHD audio and this soundtrack just seemed to be much fuller from a bass perspective... it's most likely because I haven't watched a TrueHD movie that had a soundtrack like this, but I was still somewhat surprised.

As far as upgrading my receiver, etc goes, I think I'll wait to see how many NF movie rentals actually come with an Atmos sountrack, since studios have a tendancy to dummy down the audio on their rental titles.

It's not so much the fault of the Dolby TrueHD or DTS Master Audio codec choice (they're both lossless compression formats that pack PCM data into a smaller size), but how the original theatrical multi-track is changed during the near-field home theater mix. Sometimes it's filtered or dynamically compressed too much. That was one problem with Avatar where the low bass below 25 Hz was chopped out.

That was the point of my previous post. Unfortunately it seems to be a common occurrence these days. If I recall correctly, you are a regular contributor at my old hunting grounds, the subwoofer forum, which includes that sticky New Master List of BASS in Movies with Frequency Charts thread. We need more movies with house crumbling bass!

Yeah, the menu pulled up when the BD booted and I looked at it and scratched my head, but went with it since I have a 7.2 system .. glory .. !! And I had thought I had the art in my Home Theater secured down very well .. boy was I wrong ..

Took me by surprise since I've not really been keeping up with audio news these last few years ..

From Sound&Vision:

Dolby Releases Atmos Testimonial VideoThree Blu-ray titles featuring Dolby Atmos soundtracks were announced this week. Paramount Pictures will release Hercules on November 4 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on December 16. Lionsgate announced the November 4 release of Step Up All In on Blu-ray.
Dovetailing with this week’s Blu-ray release of Transformers: Age of Extinction, the first movie with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack, Dolby has produced a behind-the-scenes testimonial video featuring Greg P. Russell, the re-recording mixing engineer. The video is available here.
“I was absolutely astounded with the home theater version in Dolby Atmos—all the imagery was dead-on and, sonically, it had the exact same experience as the cinema,” Russell says.

There is also an AVS sticky thread dedicated to Atmos here: The official Dolby Atmos thread (home theater version)

I noticed a distressing thing recently. In my "Saved" queue, titles are going blank. As in, missing, with just an empty space where they used to be:

In the second one, I'm pretty sure it's Secret Diary season 3 that is blank.

Any idea what's going on?

Thumbs down Godzilla

Silly movie. Not feature film quality. Better suited for the Sci Fi channel.

No issues with my Queue. You may want to call them so they can see it on line.

I see that with some stuff. In fact, one of my at home discs right now (Wall St sequel) is blanked out like you mention.

Update: Now that I search Netflix for that movie, it does not even show up as a choice - it's like it's totally gone from the catalog. So it seems like anything blanked out is gone, at least for now.

WHich Godzilla? If you are talking about the one that was released this SUmmer, then that was definitely feature film quality. That much money has never been spent on a Godzilla movie before. And it looked better than any Godzilla film before it. The special effects were easily feature film quality. They spent some serious money on the movie. It had a budget of something like $160 Million.

I'm seeing that, too.

I'm not sure what's going on.

I also got an e-mail saying a disc I already had at home was shipping that day, despite my not having returned anything. Something's up with their system.

Being a former actor and stage director, I found the performances and plot line better suited for Sci Fi TV. As far as the special effects and cinematography are concerned, despite all the money they spent, unlike Transformers AOE, they just didn't impress me. However, audio quality was very good.

Yes, as I suspected, my dual subs powered out any residual dust that might have been lingering on the cones ..

And, I much preferred "Pacific Rim" .. "Godzilla" was OK, the effects were great as well as the soundstage .. as a film, however, it's not high on my list of re-watch factor ..

Maybe the Godzilla sequel will be better? Although it isn't supposed to be released until June 2018.
