How odd.

When renting discs of TV series, particularly Blu-Rays, it's common for the first disc in the series to be on long wait while the remaining discs are available now. This happens most with relatively recent releases. No biggie, as first discs probably get rented more than subsequent discs, as people rent the first one and either get hooked, or bail on the series. So, attrition plays a part in better availability of later discs, if one assumes that discs are purchased by Netflix in even sets.

So, I rented Silicon Valley, Season 1 disc 1 (Blu-Ray). IT was available now (and still is, in my area). When done with it I added disc 2 to my queue and it has been on Very Long Wait for two weeks.

This seems pretty weird to me. Completely the opposite of every other series I've ever rented. While it's no big deal, it just seems odd. I can't come up with a practical explanation, short of NF somehow ordering lots of copies of disc 1.

Could I please ask a favor? I would be interested to see if someone else (not in the Indianapolis area) could add both discs to the top of their queue for a minute, and report the wait/available status for each. Thanks in advance!

Silicon Valley: Season 1: disc 1 (Blu-Ray) ~ (available now)
Silicon Valley: Season 1: disc 2 (Blu-Ray) ~ very long wait

I am located in Salem, Oregon.

I haven't been tracking the show. Did season 2 start recently or about to start? I could conceive this odd turn of events if Season 1 ended with a cliffhanger and the fans want to review the last episode just before watching the first episode of the new season.

Normally, though, it is like you had stated: usually the wait for a TV series is on the first disc of the first season when people rent the disc and then find out the series is not their cup of tea. (I had a few like that.)

I have also been known to remove a season, go into my user preferences and deselect automatic selection of Blu-ray, and then add that season back in as DVDs just because the DVDs were readily available but the Blu-rays weren't. And then I would go back and change my user preferences to select Blu-ray because Blu-rays look far better on the 50-in than DVDs.

My very humble setup:
Man Cave:Vizio E500i-A1 "Smart TV" (50-in 1080p 120Hz LED/LCD, has Netflix app.), Sony BDP-S3100 Blu-ray player, Roku N1000 (original model), PC (Windows 7), Comcast Internet (120Mbps/12Mbps).
Bedroom:LG 32LV3400-UA TV (32-in 768p 60Hz LED/LCD), HD DVR (Motorola RNG200N), Xfinity Comcast cable (Digital Preferred Plus), DVD/VHS player.

Thanks for the reply Mark. It's great confirmation that it's not just an anomaly in my local area that Season 2 is VLW. Oh well. I'm just leaving it at the top of the queue. Sometimes if the top-of-queue disc is passed over repeatedly, NF ships it from some remote location as a bonus disc.

It's a funny show. Only a relatively few short episodes in season 1.

Just the opposite here lately. The last half dozen shows I've rented. The initial discs in the TV series BDs have been available. It's the last one or two discs that have been long wait/very long wait for me.

Hmmm. Despite better recent shipment speed (~50% getting to me overnight, rest within 2 days), this week two discs shipped Monday still haven't made it to me. And one shipped yesterday didn't arrive today, either... Sigh. I miss the old NF/Postal system.

No issues here in NJ. Been getting all my discs delivered in one day for over 2 months.

I've gone from receiving 3 discs within two days to 5-6 days. They confirm receiving them within 1-2 days. I live just west of Portland, OR so it's not like USPS has to travel way out in the boonies. Doesn't matter which day of the week I send them back either. It's now been this way for past 2 months.

The same here in Northern Virginia. They have been getting them in one day. And I have been receiving them in one day. Whatever issues they had earlier in the year in my area were straightened out.

Same here. I received my disc yesterday, it must be a Indiana thing.

The three discs I mailed last Tuesday (May 12) an hour before the collection box's pickup time still hadn't arrived today (Friday, May 15). I ended up filing a problem on all three.

Even more confusing is that they have a link "Wondering why you have an extra disc?" when I didn't have any extra discs even before reporting the three discs in transit.

This isn't like them.

My very humble setup:
Man Cave:Vizio E500i-A1 "Smart TV" (50-in 1080p 120Hz LED/LCD, has Netflix app.), Sony BDP-S3100 Blu-ray player, Roku N1000 (original model), PC (Windows 7), Comcast Internet (120Mbps/12Mbps).

And this morning, even the crappy "new style" disc new releases page is unreachable. It takes me to a streaming "Who's Watching?" page...

Anybody have a link that still gets to an actual list of what's releasing this week?

No, in fact I was using the old "allnewreleases" page I still have linked. In the last few weeks that took me to the gallery, but now I guess it redirects to the streaming service.

I've bookmarked the link you gave for future use.

They still post that link (released in the last week) in the DVD releases home page, but the address was changed. DVD New Releases. I called them and complained that it was better the old way (Releasing this week). I suggest you do the same. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

With the "new" scanning by my local PO I'm back to receiving discs like I did prior to this year. Send on Monday; receive on Wednesday. Send on Thursday; receive on Saturday. I'm going back to one disc out at-a-time starting June.

The three discs I mailed last Tuesday before that collection box's pick-up time had finally been scanned in by Netflix today. Normally it wouldn't take six calendar days.
