Netflix is still a better alternative from a cost perspective than a Blockbuster rental at the store. I may have friends there but I have to fork up the rental fee obviously!

Blockbuster has 2 for 1 on Monday through Wednesady with the Rewards program. That is when I do my bulk of renting from the store to offset the cost. I strongly recommend folks looking into that if their stores carry BDs.

BTW, there is NO excuse from Netflix for a status going from shipping today or expecting to ship today and then getting changed to the next day. There are 20 titles in my queue. Send me the next one that is available THAT DAY!!!!

I've officially had it with their shenanigans. Two weeks ago, I got 300 on Blu-ray. Popped it into the PS3, hit play, nothing. Checked the disc, it's all scratched. Reported the problem to Netflix but did not request a replacement. Last Friday, I got the Blu-ray copy of Mr. Brooks and was all excited to see another Tier 0 movie. This disc had a crack on it, a few cm long. Reported the problem, but this time requested a replacement. Got the replacement copy yesterday, and its the DVD version. Thanks alot, you bastards.

I think this is the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I've never had a problem with their shipping times. Just seems to me that they can't get me a disc that will play. I've even had problems with regular DVDs too in that regard.

It has lots to do with volume of subscibers and how many copies of the films they are getting. They need to jockey around and try to satisfy customers. My location may be a high volume area.

I'm sure they try to keep the larger subcriber accounts more satisifed than the smaller ones just getting one at a time.

The highest volume is probably with mailing returns on Friday and Saturday. Not sure if anyone for that company works on Sunday so they have a ton of mail to contend with first thing AM on Monday. It appears to run more smoothly later in the week for movies being shipped out to me.

Lately I've been getting a lot of this from Netflix:

Quote:
The Rock (Blu-ray)
Your movie was not available at your local shipping center. We sent it from Harrisburg, PA and expect it to arrive on Saturday, Jan 12, 2008.

This is about the fifth time since December they've sent me discs from other parts of the country. I got one disc from California and the packaging smelled like smoke.

Does anyone know how to find new releases now? They did have a "releasing this week" category, but now I can't find it. Their new layout isn't very friendly.

My NetFlix experience has been great.
I have 18 Blu-ray movies in my queue right now: 5 are listed as Short Wait and just Kingdom of Heaven is Very Long Wait. The other 12 are all available.
We just recently watched Spider-man 3 and 28 Weeks Later on Blu-ray and Ratatouille on Blu-ray is on its way.
So we have had no problems with Blu-rays from NetFlix - weird that so many other people are having problems...

Put newest titles in your queue and you'll see the wait times. I'm not blaming nexflix as this format is a niche. I don't think they are going to get many copies of each just to satisfy a small community of folks. No telling how many SD DVDs they get versus BDs.

I used a netflix type service here in canada called zip.ca. It was a joke, there were movies that I never received, never watched and then they instituted a policy where for the price of a rental I would get bumped to head of the line for that particular title, this of course, in addition to the monthly fee I was already paying. I promptly cancelled and haven't returned.

Problem is that if customers are made to wait too long, they'll just drop Netflix.

There should be a formula where they buy more of a title if the wait is more than 3 weeks.

Samsung 64F8500, Panasonic 65VT50, Oppo 95, Tivo Roamio for OTA, Dish VIP722, Marantz AV8801 preamp, Rotel Amps, Atlantic Tech 8200 speakers, Seaton Submersive HP, Calman 5, Chromapure, Accupel DVG-5000, i1Display3pro, i1pro2, eecolor colorbox.

Jim,

The wait of 3 weeks can happen for a new release. What happens afterwards in the next month or so when there is no demand for that title? Why would they stock so many then when that eventuallty happens?

I've got a numeber of movies that have been on "very long wait" for a good while. One advantage is that it has given me time to watch a lot of movies I probably wouldn't have watched (particularly foreign movies). I agree though, the long wait times for new releases sucks. The "must haves" I have bought but many of the new movies I would only watch one time.

That would be nice if they were selling Blu titles but to my knowledge they are not.

It would be interesting to see how many titles they actually do sell once demand for them as rentals drops to nothing.

Your right. I meant that they would sell them as they do the SD now.

Anyway, I would never buy from them. Not after the the condition that I received some in. Some had what could only be described as food particles stuck to them. Proof that they dont check them before shipping them out. All in all a terrible experience.

They should keep track of who is damaging their disc and cancel their subscriptions.

I agree. I've been a netflix subscriber for several years and I have only received one disc that wouldn't play. I did receive a BD that froze in a couple of spots but other than that, everything has been fine.

Except that in my case the wait has been closer to 6 weeks. I just received F4: RoSS about 2 weeks ago. I had been waiting on it nearly 3 months.

The 12 top titles in my Netflix Q (combination of
BluRay, HDDVD) are all very long wait. The next 4
are long/short wait (also BluRay or HDDVD).
Bourne Ultimatum on HDDVD was in my Q as
very long wait for 1 month+, then I gave up and bought
it Same for Harry Potter: OOP
and Ratatouille

I don't feel like watching movies in SD if an HD version
is available. If consumers wait long enough
to decide to purchase instead of rent, why should
they want to continue to subscribe to Netflix?
OTOH, we're probably just a niche market for them...for now...

I still don't buy it but use a Blockbuster or Hollywood Video store rental. That may not be as easy for some folks than others and I realize that.

I'm with both Blockbuster and Netflix for my Dual Format Player. Both have been pretty good at new releases until last week. Now Netflix is showing about half of my HD titles in the Q as some type of wait (and Blockbuster too). I'm probably getting slowed down for returning my movies too quickly but what do they want me to do when I watch it the night it comes in, just hold it for a week and prevent someone else from seeing it?

It's been said before, I know it costs them more money for people who return them quick but people who return movies quick should get new releases first.

I'll chime in with a ME TOO!!!

10 of my top 12 on wait. The ones I can get I really don't give a damn about, I just want to see them in HD (Unforgiven, Alexander).

I just lowered to the 1 at a time plan. I'll stop throwing money at Netflix for absolutely no reason. If the supply issues are not fixed asap, whether theirs or the studios fault, I will cancel completely. Why would anyone give the Netflix nearly the cost of a new movie every month in order to see NOTHING is beyond me.

This will only be fixed when it financially effects them. Until then it will just be a bunch of people bitching on the internet.

I have about 30 HD-DVD/BluRays in que with LongWait or Very Long wait for the past 2 months!

I'm about to drop the plan to 1 at a time.

And recently I started to receive movies from West Coast and South. WTF!

All in all not a good week for me at all. Not only didn't I get a new release, I got nothing so far and I'm on three at a time and all returns were made since Monday and netflix confirmed that. How I know is they update the status with "we plan to ship your next movie by xxxxxxx". This week that staus has changed to the next day. Now I know they are shipping from a different center obviously and I should get 1 today, 2 tomorrow. Not good!

I already tried that, they won't answer your email with anything but a response that says to call and when you call, they don't really care.
