I would hope that when Indiana Jones, which hits theaters May 22, is released on optical media, that there will be both DVD and BD releases. This would also be a good time for IJ 1 - 3.

Hopefully soon, I bought S3 when it was $40 at amazon, I'd really like 1 and 2 though so I can start rewatching it.

A Bittersweet Life is a very good movie. In fact, I like it more than Oldboy. I'd love to see it on Blu-ray. Even a region 1 DVD release would be welcome, even though I already own the region 3 version.

I didn't care for My Sassy Girl myself, but I know it's very popular.

Don't be surprised if they wait until next year's sequel. If not, I think they'd release it around the holidays.

THis is a simple one time prediction thread. What do you think the first Universal Blu-ray title will be.

The reasoning behind your answer is welcome and a timetable for the release is for bonus points.

Charlie Wilson's War, or

Definitely, Maybe.

Oh, and for Paramount:

Cloverfield (though I am REALLY hoping they can get Sweeney Todd and There Will Be Blood out in time).

Well, now that Toshiba has dropped HD DVD, Paramount and Universal are free to produce movies for Blu-ray...FINALLY! Adios, HD DVD!

Bring on the Star Trek, baby! TNG, DS9, and the Star Trek movies would be AWESOME (Voyager and Enterprise...no thanks)! Also, (of course) Star Wars, the Matrix Trilogy, LOTR, Indiana Jones, Aliens series...and throw in the Bourne Trilogy as well. Goldeneye would also be nice...the SD DVD just doesn't cut it.

Btw, they need to re-release T2 on Blu-ray...looks about the same as an up-converted SD DVD--unacceptable treatment for one of the best action/sci-fi movies of all time...sorry, I know that's probably off-topic, but had to sneak that one in there.

Go Blu-ray!

Lately my girlfriend has been expressing interest in purchasing the foundational disney movies (Lion King, Aladin, Snow White, etc) on DVD and I have been resisting because I made an unspoken commitment to cease purchases of a lesser format. In general, I refuse to watch DVD's because I can't get over the fact that there is a better format out there that I feel provides a better movie experience. The problem for me is that our little girl is growing up and we want her to have those same cartoon experiences that give that warm fuzzy feeling we all remember... but I REALLY dont want to purchase DVD's if I dont have to. So when can we expect disney to begin releasing these on blu-ray? Should I just accept that it is going to be a while and just purchase the DVD's?

I watched Zodiac at 9 last night and then saw the news and then watch a bd movie(Resident Evil 3) and then finished it off with Into the Blue.

Ok now lets get the fricking BIg catalog titles out already. Come on JP and Jaws. How about throw in some Event Horizon too. Alien and Aliens.
Braveheart,Gladiator. All in PCM sound.

Serenity
Chronicles of Riddick
LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring
LOTR: Two Towers
LOTR: Return of the King
Star Wars I - VI
Indian Jones I - IV
Star Trek I -XI
ET
King Kong
Obviously, I'm very into Sci Fi/action adventure/fantasy films. Everything else aka chick flicks and comedies, I can enjoy with my family on the 65" rear projection.
I've watched the above titles over and over via upscaled on my PS3 via Mitsubishi 4900 front projection on a 136" screen (not that impressed with PS3 upscaling at this time), and wondering if I should buy the Toshiba Xa2 and get either the HD DVD versions of what's available and/or continue to enjoy the SD version with improved upscaling?
If these titles are likely years away, it might just be worth taking advantage of the HD DVD sales going on.
Decisions, decisions, decisions...

I think it will probably be a while, and they wont be all at once when they do finally come out, get the DVDs, when the HD versions come out rebuy them if you wish.

If Universal is listening, please get Children of Men out on Blu-Ray stat. I have been waiting to re-watch that amazing film since I saw it in the theater, and I wouldn't take SD DVD for an answer.

Also, the Bourne series. Also, Serenity. (Come to think of it, I'm probably enough of a sucker to re-buy the Firefly set if they put it out on BD with some more extras, but that's a memo to Fox.)

I've read a few threads online saying that the 1960's The Avengers tv series is going to be released on Blu Ray in 2008. Has anyone heard anything further on this? I would appreciate it.

I'm also interested in the 1998 Warner Bros movie adaptation as well. It would be cool to see the completed version of the film. A lot of material was cut for it's theatrical run. I know the film is completed as the soundtrack contained music for the entire film. Seems like it would be simple enough project if a completed version does exist. Unlike the Donner cut for Superman II.

Thanks!

Just curious if anyone has heard about new blu ray releases for The Saint tv series with Roger Moore.

Also, is there any development with Paramount putting the Val Kilmer The Saint film to Blu Ray disc? It would be great to have the original version as well as the theatrical released version.

Thanks!

I have no idea when the titles you asked about will be released. I'd just like to say that a well mastered DVD can look quite pleasing played on a good upconverting DVD player. So, if money isn't an issue I'd go ahead and get the DVDs for your little girl.

I've found that while the PQ of BD discs is outstanding, that a movie that has a strong plot with outstanding acting, whether on DVD or even LD, can make you forget PQ. Last night I watched L.A. Confidentialcome on Warner, let's release this on BD on LD, yes LD, and got so caught up in the movie that I couldn't care less about PQ.
