There are 2 that stand out for me for different reasons
1 SIN CITY :for the artistic CGI the inky blacks and natural contrast would look incredible (I honestly find it hard to beleive it isnt out on BD yet)????????????
2 Open range :For the audio the dvd is great but i would love to here the dialog and gunfire in truehd uncompressed audio mmmmmhmmmm

With this being one of the titles in that flux period between the HD-DVD/BD transition, what are the chances of seeing this on BD? I'm worried it will get lost in the shuffle and then passed over for the more current titles when Paramount starts releasing.

It truly depends on how it is recorded, not how it is broadcasted. They make one copy from the master for TV broadcast in 1080i and one in 1080p for HD media. That is of course unless the recording is done in 1080i. I would bet that TTSCC is probably captured on Film or 1080p HD Cameras for that same reason.

The reason I'm asking is that I watched a TV special that interviewed the
people from that show.... one guy(the producer or something) mentioned
that the show may be released in 1080p high def media, now that Blu-ray
is the only format left...

How would they convert a TV show that was broadcasted in 1080i
into 1080p? Sorry for such a newbie question...

Thanks!

How do you get that show in 1080i? It is on Fox so it is 720p.

As far as Blu-ray, shows are mastered in 1080p now, and converted for delivery either to 1080i (CBS, NBC) or 720p (FOX, ABC).

Hopefully 1080p, I was planning on getting it if it came out on BD or not at all.

It would be 1080p 24fps since it was originally shot on film and telecined for the TV broadcast.

Whoa, that was weird. That is not where I posted that. I posted "Anybody have any insight on this?" in a thread for The Princess Bride, and it ended up here. Weird.

DOES anyone have any news about or know if The Princess Bride will be coming to BD?

FOX does not broadcast its HD programming in 1080i, it is exclusively 720p.

FOX released Prison Break (which is broadcast in 720p) on Blu-ray last year... but the Blu-ray was 1080p and looks fantastic. One of the best Blu-ray presentations anywhere.

I'm pretty sure if Sarah Chronicles comes out on Blu-ray, it will be 1080p.

A) Fox doesn't broadcast 1080i, only 720p.

B) If it was shot in film, it already is progressive. If not, most Hollywood-level digital cameras shoot in 1080p or higher.

Great show and it looks impressive in HD! Hope we see the season set soon, though given FOX's prices, I may think twice before buying.

just wait until you see it on blu (providing they do a top notch transfer).
Lost on blu looks so much better than the OTA 720p ABC broadcast it is not even funny. Almost like SDTV vs. HDTV.
Hopefully SCC will too. Hopefully the sadly short 7 episode S1 will also make the cost WAY low. They better not expect to charge anywhere remotely close to normal full season price for it!

Now the format war is over and all the major studio's are supporting one format i have been thinking it would be great if Criterion published some plans on releasing on Blu-Ray.

Obviously Criterion license their catalogue of titles from other studio's and are a small company but they lavish care and attention on their releases even if their early titles on DVD lacked anamorphic enhancement and some had macro blocking ( Silence of the lambs and RoboCop both suffered macro blocking )

I would love to see Spartacus, Silence of the lambs, Armageddon - Directors cut and more......I do think new prints need to be struck for Spartacus and Silence of the Lambs though but it would be great to have the Criterion extra's if they still own the rights.

In fact this has me wondering....Do Criterion own any rights to high definition releases or will they need to strike a new deal ?

Would Robert A Harris get involved with any new release of Spartacus as it's clear work needs done on the print available ?

I ask all these questions because if Blu-Ray sells well during 2008 then i think it will be a success and thus the smaller companies would have a base to work upon and release their titles.

Any Criterion insiders on these boards ?

I think they should soon. On there website they say they have been asked multiple times, and are just waiting till one format becomes the norm.

Also, they mention that a lot of there DVDs were remastered in HD then encoded for DVD, so they already have the HD masters, of video anyways.

but what if they're 1080i masters? I'd like to think Criterion's been doing 2k or 4k (or 8k!) masters for awhile, but I'm not sure. Anyone know?

I'd buy the Sarah Connor Chronicles on BD. I've seen the show only twice but it looks entertaining. And I love the Terminator movies!

Here are some of the titles I am waiting for to be released on Blu-ray.

Saving Private Ryan
Jurassic Park 1-3
Band Of Brothers
Heat
Gone With The Wind
James Bond Movies
Armageddon
Lord Of The Rings EE 1-3
Batman Anthology
King And I
Sound Of Music
DasBoot
Pulp Fiction
Godfather Trilogy
Star Trek 1-10

If they would just put the above lines back in then i think the directors cut really would be better. I don't miss the Clannad song.

As it stands there are certain things in the directors cut that are better but there are things also in the theatrical cut that work better.

Here's an idea though....Give us both using seamless branching....or does Warner only own the rights to the theatrical cut for Europe while Fox own the rights to the directors cut only for America ?

Wasn't it a co-production between Fox and Warner so perhaps both need to reach agreement.

Shooter was already out before the Paramount switch to HD DVD. Hopefully should be back in circulation soon. Bourne and Universal in general will take a little longer..

I imagine the Bourne Trilogy will be one of the first catalog titles released. But who know how long that will take to prepare and release.

As mentioned, Shooter was already available. It was available at the same time as the HD-DVD. Copies just dried up because of the switch over.

In a world where there are few films I want to rent, why is this not on BD? Is this not from a BD supporting studio?

EDIT: Never mind. I see that it's Universal. I thought it was MGM. My bad.
