The problem was the underlying film was so grainy that you really saw a LOT of junk in the image. It was distracting to watch for me -- probably would have looked better on a 108oi set. It seemed like an example of a film that didn't benefit from the scrutiny of a hi-res re-master. I wonder how many other older prints will have similar issues. In any event, I had planned to buy it but now plan to stick with the SD DVD version that I think actually is nicer to watch overall.

I don't know if I could disagree more strongly. I am absolutely stunned with how good they were able to make that movie look considering how old it is. They did an amazing job with the Blu-ray version of CE3K.

That said, further discussion should probably take place in the tier thread instead of the deals thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=858316

Unless they are just trying to clear out all the BR's because they have alot of them now.

"AMAZON UK
LAST UPDATED 1/14/08
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.h...fenheimth04-21
Deal - BUY 3 Blu-rays, get 2 FREE"

That's NOT what the deal is. It's 3 for 2, meaning "Buy 2, get 1 free."

Exchange rate is approximately 2 to 1. So, a movie that is selling for 17 pounds equates to about $34.00 usd. Not great, obviously.

Hey guys just wanted to let you guys know that i went for the BOGO at CC and i got 3 movies for 35 bucks. The thing was that they made a mistake of posting signs for all the CC BO movie as 16.50. So i picked up 3, 2 for 16.50 and the free one. They rang me up and of course the movies rang up to 50 bucks but i told them that there paper say get one free, and after some manager came he was saying that the 16.50 each comes out that way cause the computer reads it that way but there really 24.99. I told him well the signs are up and it doesnt say anything about what you just told me. So he went and checked and was pretty pissed cause the signs were all over the place so he had to give me the deal. It was a long boring story but hey maybe you guys can check out your local CC to see if they did the same thing.

They can be expensive, but some of their movies aren't released here yet, like the Tudors one I ordered.

Has anyone had issues or even attempted to use the $5 coupon from BB on the 2 for $45 deal? I wanna look at that tomorrow along with what the other guy said about the TRU bogo possibly still running. I had a field day with that deal.

I'm assuming they are still selling them for $24.99 so half would be $12.50 which would bring the total to $37.49 for 2 movies + tax. I'll pass. When i went their to get that POTC 3 deal their selection was very small. Mostly disney titles. They just started selling blu ray when they had that bogo sale
so they should get more movies eventually. Thx for the info. save me a trip.

Gets tricky though. The previous few months were Holiday Season. That's now in the past!

It looks like any order over $25 ships for free kinda like the Amazon shipping. It looked like about $3.00 otherwise. Good prices will have to keep an eye on this site.

FYI, I ordered from WHV with the 25% off code and they shipped to me overnight for free. I selected free ship, and was not charged, but it did arrive Mon and was ordered Fri. Has anyone else gotten free expedited shipping from them? (I had ordered 3 BD and 1 HD DVD)

I got the same thing, but it was a few weeks after I placed my order. It was also a couple days before X-mas, and I assume they did it so that the dvds would get to me before X-mas.

Seems like there's no new deals to had from Amazon-like the BOGOs.

Looked today and there's still the same deals as before-50% off Disney and 53% off Warners. The thing is those deals were previously part of the BOGOs and most people here either got them already or are willing to wait till the BOGOs comes around again.

I'm thinking they won't have a BOGO on these titles again for a while, unless Amazon wants to refund people the difference on them. This makes me think if they offer new BOGOs it should be different titles. But, then again I'm thinking maybe all those BOGO deals going on late last year was a holiday push for 4Q sales numbers and future BOGOs will be far and in between.

I got into the Blu-Ray game around September and don't know how the deals were before that. How were the deals before that? If history predicts, what do you guys think?

It just depends how patient you are. Will they have the BOGOs again? I'd say yes. But who knows when that will be. Remember the last one was less than a month ago. They're not going to have them every other week, that's for sure.

This is why I'm trying to just save up and wait as best I can. Sometimes it works, other times I just have to have it.

Given what the market is doing, I will be slowing my spending on BR titles. This is the time to conserve as one never know what will happen to the economy/jobs in the coming months.

However, a slowdown in consumer spending may promote more BOGO's from big r-etailers to pump up the volume.

There is a $10 off coupon for the Gameplan (just like the Pirates:AWE)... I was able to stack this at Walmart with the $5 Disney coupon, with manager approval... $24.96 - $10 - $5 = $9.96 + tax

Here is the $10 coupon courtesy of blu-ray.com
