Hi guys

I have noticed that after about 20-30min of playing a HD DVD or DVD movie in my HD-A1 at thin black vertical line starts to appear on the far left side of the picture. In the next 30min the size of this line grows, to about 1" wide (on my 92" diagonal screen).

As it only appears after some time, I have a feeling that it could be a heat problem.

Has anyone else noticed this problem - and have a solution?

One word. Overscan.

Just shake your player and see if you notice any rattling sound inside. Somebody noticed recently the heat sink coming loose in his player. When that happens the processor could get hot pretty quickly and all sorts of crazy things can happen. Check that before pressing the panic button.

If I had such an issue with my A1, I am pretty sure I'd just overscan it off the screen and call it good till it died, if it ever dies.

At this point I figure to run my A2 into the ground and then switch back to my A1. I never really noticed anything like that with my A1 though, but I've been using the A2 since the Wall Mart sale last year.

Hmm.. why is not there from the beginning???

maybe I should just blank it off.... or get an XE1/XA2 before stocks run out.... :-)

I figure the A1 to be a sweet backup player. It really was the best of the crop if you have one without playback issues.

I can't answer why it gets worse. I just provided how I would get around it. I would use the min overscan from the beggining to make sure the area does not make it on the screen when at it's worse.

guys... something weird happened when I tried to blank it off today. The bar actually got bigger... then I eased off the blanking... and it completely disappeared.... strange...
