Hi everyone,
I tried searching first but didn't find anything that seemed similar to my problem

I have a A2, with an Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver, and an InFocus 4805 projector for part of my setup. Each piece of equipment is capable of 1080i, I am using HDMI cables all the way through to the projector. No matter what I do I can't get the Toshiba to play an HD-DVD other than 720p.
If I put a HD-DVD in the A2 (without the projector on, or selected on the Onkyo) the HD-DVD loads up on 1080i, but as soon as the projector is turned on or selected in converts to 720p. I think it may some type of 'hand shake' issue, but for the life of me I can't get 1080i no matter what I do.

Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

For some reason, your projector is declaring during the handshake phase that its best capability is 720p suggesting yor A2 to set itself in 720p mode. Your projector is the culprit here. You should focus on some settings in your projector rather than worrying about A2 or Onkyo 606 receiver.

Try connecting the HD-A2 directly to the projector if you can. See what resolution comes up.

Like the previous poster said, I think its the projector.

I have an A2 connected through a 606 receiver to a 1080p capable display. It plays at 1080i with no problem. It's your projector.

Infocus says the 4805 is HDCP compliant, but you're the second person I've seen this week having this problem. Other is an X2 (4805 clone?) over in the FP forum. Both with Onkyos, but different players. To me, it sounds like either the player or 606 doesn't believe the 4805 is HDCP compliant and thus the downscaling.

You do realize the 4805 is only a 480p projector, correct? While it will accept 720p and1080i signals, it will have to downscale them to 480p. You should experiement with letting the A2 downscale HD-DVD instead of the 4805. For SD-DVD, 480p out should be better for the 4805...if you upscale in the A2, the 480 will turn around and downscale...you've just interpolated and then deinterpolated the image, better to just leave it alone IMO.
