I'm using an DV-HD805 - HD DVD Player (re-badged XA2) and I'd like to use the purported "bookmarking" feature in HD DVD. I'd love to be able to bookmark various spots on the Planet Earth HD DVD for demo purposes.

But I can't find anything about how to do it. Nothing about bookmarking in my manual, no "bookmark" buttons on the remote etc.

If I understand correctly only some HD DVDs allow for bookmarking. So is this strictly something to search for in an HD DVD menu?

Can someone please explain how I bookmark scenes?

Thanks!

only some titles allow you bookmarking, usually by pressing B on the remote. warner titles work like that.

Hmm, thanks, I'll try it on a Warner title. Too bad I see no such option on Planet Earth HD DVD.

Can one do much bookmarking on Blu Ray? Is it a similar situation to HD DVD?

Thanks,

Blu-ray is like HD DVD. It has to be enabled on a per title basis. If the disc doesn't support it, you can't bookmark. And if the disc does support it, the exact button to push can change from title to title.

This and not doing an automatic bookmark (just pop the disc back in and it picks up where it left off) are the two biggest flaws in the HD formats in my opinion. I'm sure there are technical reasons that make perfect sense. But when a DVD player can do it and the more advanced HD player can't, it just looks bad in my opinion.
