Can the disc drive from say, an HD-A2, be used as a replacement disc drive in an HD-XA2? I have an A2 that I don't plan to use, and I need to decide whether to keep it around for a spare drive in case the one in my XA2 fails. If not, I don't plan to keep it around.
Thanks. I thought perhaps they were programmed to only work with a certain board. It doesn't screw things up if the drive's firmware is a different version? Unless that isn't stored on the drive itself.
Swapping drives between same generation players works well. I had problems with the drive on my XE1 (which is the European version of the XA2). About half the discs I tried to play just gave an error message. Something about the disc not being a DVD. I bought a cheap used E1 (which is the European version of the A2) and swapped the drives. Now my XE1 plays all the discs I can throw at it.
