You'll have to excuse me, as I come from a PS3 world. I unexpectedly pulled the trigger on a deal for an X-BOX 360 4g system with kinect that I just couldn't pass up. It will be a Christmas present for the kids.

I've had an xbox HD DVD drive connected to my pc for years. I have a spare I picked up for $10. Will this connect and be recognized by the new xbox slim?

Yes, it will work fine. I have the original 250GB Slim and my HD-DVD add-on works still. The firmware is already installed, so the original firmware isn't needed. I have encountered a few brand-new movies that would cause a read-error and not play, but I don't know if it was a disc error or specific to the player. Some examples are Troy, The Matrix, and Ocean's 13.
