Dave, a fotografy suggestion--don't stand squarely in front of things that are highly reflective when you're using a flash. Doing so creates the VERY BRIGHT reflections that appear in your 2nd and 3rd pics.

Tin-eared audiofool, videot, Classical-music lover, and terrible competitive pistol shootist.

Examples of fotografing reflective things. Both of these images were shot with direct flash and at the same exposure, and both were leveled to the same settings.

This was shot from below and slightly left.

This was shot from farther left. Reflections are fewer and less intense.

BTW this is my DH DVD collection. About 15 more are preordered.

I love this thread. So great to see other folks' setups. Here is my humble system:
- Sunfire Cinema Grand 5x200w
- Onkyo PR-SC885 SSP
- Definitive BP2000TLs, CLR2000, and BPX surrounds
- Monster and DIY speaker cables
- Mitsubishi HC3000 1280*768 DLP projector (uncalibrated)
- Da Lite 106" Cinema Contour High Contrast Cinema Vision
- Motorola HD-DVR
- Toshiba HD-XA2 (output set to 720p)
- PS3 60gb
- Monoprice 50 ft HDMI cable
- Monster PowerCenter HTS 3500 MkII

Edit 1/22/09: I just revisited this today and noticed how bad Aeon Flux looked back in May 07. I tried to calibrate the Mits 3000 in July and here was my experience.

Thanks for the info. I knew that would probably happen but I was in a hurry and did it anyways. I need to get a tripod as well and learn how to take much better screen shots.

Quack- Nice setup.

Have you tried th XA2 at 1080, and let your PJ down-scale? Reports are that this is superior as long as your display has a decent scaler.

Hi Steve, thank you for the compliment. I don't have a dedicated room (someday hopefully!) but I tried to make the best of the circumstances .

I did indeed try 1080i but I kept getting a flickering line across the middle of the screen which occured right after I changed from 720p to 1080i so I set it back to 720p and the line disappeared. I would see this flickering line in the menu as well as during play back of HD DVDs. I also tried this setting with a different 50 ft Monoprice HDMI cable on my Panny 600u (768p?) plasma in a different room and I saw the same thing. So I am not sure if it's the Monoprice cables?

Can't resist showing you my new centerchannel speaker/TV stand. It uses the same 6-1/2" Sonic Craft bass/MR drivers as my main L/Rs, this time in an MTM configuration with a Aurum Cantus G2 tweeter. Crossover is passive. The other-4 6-1/2"ers are driven with bass-only, filtered by my trusty ol' Dahlquist LP-1 (50Hz, 3rd-order) and driven by a channel of the Outlaw 770. Will be adding 4 more 6-1/2" 'woofers' in the bottom*.

This allowed me to lower the TV maybe 5", and as I think is visible in the pic, I've tilted the top of the TV toward the viewer maybe an inch to decrease reflections in the screen.

This speaker system sounds really good so far. This is my 1st use of a high-quality ribbon tweeter and so far it's well worth the cost.

* I have a lot of these, and you, too, can for only about $11 each, delivered. Sonic Craft, 800/689-4434.

Magnificent! Can I come over and play?

Sure.

It's amazing what 4 months of planning, 3 months of construction, and going into debt can do to achieve a terrific HD Home Theater experience.

Our addition of the Toshiba A2 just added yet one more reason not to leave the HT room very often.
