The A20 is the same as the A2, the XA2 adds 5.1 analog, coaxial out, and RS-232, aloing with HDMI 1.3

There's even more than that, I was just answering the differences in jack-packs question...

http://www.hdmi.org/resourcecenter/index.asp

keep in mind, that the "HDMI chain" would need to be 1.3 the whole way through:

Software to support it
playback device to support it
display device to suppot it

and "HDMI 1.3" by itself means almost nothing, as the manufacturer must state which of the 1.3 features they are supporting...

Robert's site says 5 DVD's from Toshiba, 2 from him, and Digital Video Essentials and Saltwater Aquarium. Are Digital Video Essentials and Saltwater Aquarium the two from him? DVE is the calibration disk right? And what is Saltwater Aquarium?

Thanks,
Dustin

Anyone care to clear this up for me?

Yes, from my understanding that's correct. 5 HD DVDs from Toshiba, click on the link and it should provide you with a form to send to Toshiba. Yes, the DVE is the calibration disc but I believe it's not the HD version and the Saltwater Aquarium is this:

So are those 2 DVD's the two Robert (DTV_TIVO_DEALER) is offering in his deal on his web site, or are they in addition to the 5 from toshiba + 2 from Robert?

7 total...2 from him and 5 from Toshiba....see

http://www.*********************/Tosh...A20_HD_DVD.htm

This, IMO is probably the best deal I've seen so far -- but still debating..maybe you guys can help me out. I don't have a fancy receiver-- it's an Onkyo HTIB (can't remember the model #). In any case, what would be the most practical right now XA2 or the A20? My set is a Sammy 5087 which is capable of 1080p.

HYPE and nothing else. No practical relevance whatsoever (other than PERHAPS this lip sync "feature").

Thanks for the clarification. I was looking at that site. The confusion I got was the bullets on the right side made it sound like the 2 free DVD's were seperate from the DVE and Aquarium videos, while the paragraph on the middle left made it sound like the 2 free DVD's WERE DVE and the aquarium.

As for which is more practicle....the A20 is cheaper by ~300, and has most of the functionality minus the REON chip and a few other things, (I believe Robert spelled out what the differences were 2-3 pages back). To me it seems this is a better deal for most people without highend receivers/etc.

Robert when you add an A2 to your cart an A20 gets added instead. If you click on the A2 to get info and price the A20 comes up.

Robert will you adjust prior $499 orders to the new price or can you cancel those that were placed?

I called the VE 800 number this evening and the lady I spoke with confirmed that orders placed before March would be adjusted to $449.99 and be elligible for the 5 free HD-DVDs from Toshiba.

I hope Robert can verify this, as it would spare me the hassle of cancelling and reordering the A20.

Same here Adam, thanks for posting.

EDIT: I PM'd Robert and he said all existing orders would be switched to the $449 and qualify for the promos.

I double checked the spec's and progress of the A20 and here's what I was told.

1. The A20 will have HDMI 1.2a.

2. My first allocation will ship by the end of this month, one month ahead of schedule.

3. More A20 promotional activity will be announced later tonight.

-Robert

Robert,
Anything on "more A20 promotional activity"?
Thanks.

"I wonder if any of the releases had slipcovers though."
"Are these comfirmed to have slipcovers?"
"They look nice in those slips."
"This slipcover looks too good to pass up."
