Robert:

I'd go with the lowest price possible with no freebies and then sell the HMDI cable & possibly one or two HD-DVDs at a discount with a HD-DVD purchase.

Also, can you post the link to your AVS discount page again. I buddy of mine may pull the trigger on a HD-DVD player shortly and I wanted to give him the link.

Thanks,
-Mike

It is very costly for us to stock every single title so we are considering just making our price as low as possible and not offering any free gifts with the purchase. I included the HDMI cables as so frequently customers get the player and do not have a HDMI cable so I wanted everyone to be able to open the box and have the best possible cable and some movies to play immediately.

I am going to wait for more responses and discuss this with our staff, but I think we will go to a lowest possible price model and drop all of the free items.

-Robert

Hi Robert,

I too would like to see a low price model. I have HDMI cables and movies already. I am looking to purchase one from you.

I agree with most here; instead of freebees, lower item cost would be a benefit. Double box and added warranty options could stay as well. Even Toshiba should consider lowering MSRP instead of mail-in-rebate (MIR) promotion; but perhaps they would also like to have more HD-DVD titles to find homes by way of MIR.

Bought my A1 elsewhere when they came out, but I did buy my Panasonic BD10 from him.

Most people just want the lowest price. Too many times the extra items are not needed or wanted.

^^ Chris, Toshiba does not include HDMI cables with the A2 or XA2, so I would assume Costco and CC had a promotion like we do to include a HDMI cable.

I personally like the option to go for the lowest price or add a preset combo with the purchase. That provides the greatest flexibility especially on a higher end purchase like the XA2. Shipping is something that definitely influences my decision as well. I find it extremely frustrating to see a competitive advertised price to only find a shipping and handling charge that totally negates any savings. When I see that, I never buy and I never return. Just my 2 cents.

the cable was packed in the sealed box with the player
the cable works fine, not a high end cable but not bad

my guess is that the cable is cheap to make, so they throw
it in just so people wont try to return the unit.

I dont know it was packed inside the box. As another boardie stated. Do you guys open the players and put the HDMI cable inside?? I wouldnt think CC or costco would do that but you never know.

Robert,

I think there is no doubt you offer a great deal to customers. I thnk it is a better deal for people new to the format. You are selling a movie machine. What good is it without a movie to play or a way to connect it?

It is different when you have some bonehead like me who loves my A1 but wonders if I might love an XA2 even more. For that, I want the cheapest possible price. I already have plenty of media to play (as if I couldn't use more). I live pretty clsoe to Monoprice, so I could order from both of you and get their cables first (regular shipping is pretty much next day). And for me, it is easy to stick with what I have because I do have a great player in the A1.

Robert,

I'm also interested in the XA2, and would like to purchase within the next couple of weeks. I'm going format neutral and don't have any HD-DVDs currently, so a package discount (player plus movies) is not a bad idea. I would like to know however what the player itself would cost delivered to my door. So, I would suggest offering a player only, and for a few dollars more, a bundled package. You'll satisfy all customers that way.

Regards,

Agreed. I think the ability to choose player-only or bundle is wise.

Holy smoke!
$639 on Amazon.
I'm so confused now.
Of course this unit has the HDMI for my TV but it has the conventional outputs for my reciever?
My reciever has got to be over 7-8 years old and obviosly has no HDMI.
If this unit is now $639, how can the soon to be released A20, which apparantly is a lower end unit, be $599, or even $499 discounted?

I am buying a HDXA2 by the end of the month. I have bought from Robert beofre and will surely check him out again. However I see the price on the internet falling rather quickly on this player. This is making me hold off now because I do not want to buy it now and in 3 weeks it will be half the price I paid.

The A20 can be found for $450 online plus all the free HD-DVDs, but I agree that the Reon chip, analog audio outs, better build, more tweaks, and HDMI 1.3 are worth the extra smacks for a $600 XA2.

Or is Toshiba just trying to stop the hemorrhaging of people jumping over to Blue Ray?
The XA2 is the only thing holding my interest with this format; otherwise I would be getting one of the Sony players for my HD fix. See Casino Royal and Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
Toshiba, where are your movie titles?
Where is your marketing campaign??
Does anyone know if that pathetic bus is still being funded by Toshiba???

Check with Robert but I think Value Electronics has a 30 day price match policy.
I jumped in last week. My XA2 will be here by thursday.(my birthday)
Robert was thinking about offering a "PLAYER ONLY" price yesterday.

The problem with all the goodies that Robert offers is what happens if you have to do a return and all of the movies have been opened? It just makes things a little messy in the odd circumstance.
