LOL. Now aren't you glad you DIDN'T get that one for $649? You can buy one from an authorized dealer for less.

$609.99 shipped is hard to pass up. But does the XA2 really have as many issues as people are claiming? If so, I'll just wait til the Gen 3 players arrive in the fall or go with the A20.

this is funny ... and the A20 is priced at $599 i wonder how Robert is going to sell the A20 units maybe XA2 is a limited edition .. or we will see the MRSP for A20 dropped to $499 and A2's MRSP set at $299 when A20 makes its way to retails

Amazon must be selling a few of these players at this price as I see the HD-A2 is number six in DVD sales and the HD-XA2 comes in at number nine.

No CE model drops 40% in such a short time since its release without a reason.

Yeah, the new low price had me just about to pull the trigger.
Then I went over to the XA2 users thread.
After reading most of the posts, I changed my mind
I'm with you, G3 will be out soon enough I'm sure.
Til then, my XA1 will have to do.

One thing you have to remember is, very few people post about how something is doing if it is performing flawlessly. You only see the negative posts venting frustration. The fact is, if you look up most players, there are issues with them as well. Especially 1st, second and third generation units. Take a stroll over to the Blue Ray forums. I have seen claims around here by some long time members on this site that Blue Ray is glitch free. Take a look around at some of the Blue Ray threads and you will see that this is not the case. I know someone who is on his second Sony Blue Ray player and his HDMI issues are still plaguing him.

Reported (more then one person) problems I have read about that bother me:
A). Frame skipping issue (confirmed by Robert of VE?).
B). Lip sync issues.
C). LFE issues.
D). Incompatability w/ certain discs.

Some folks are complaining of these problems even after upgrading to firmware V1.3.
So I am a little nervous about buying one until Toshiba fixes the problems (if they do exist) and I start reading more consistent favorable reports.
I already have a Toshiba HD player with playback issues (though minor), dont need another one!

Actually, I do see alot of positive posts. But your right, people that have problems are always more vocal.
I was willing to take the risk w/ the 1st gen player because I NEEDED to see what HD discs looked like; NOW!

Actually Amazon has received 3 shipments of x-a2s within the last 2 days.

http://www.eproductwars.com/dvd/hd-dvd.cfm

The Products Wars website shows them with a quantity of 13 on 3/14, then 62 on
3/15 and then 84 on 3/16. That's after they were out of stock for weeks. Perhaps Toshiba has assured Amazon of a continued flow of X-a2s. Hence the lower and lower pricing. $609 now with free shipping.

Who says the format war is bad for the consumer. This machine is out, what 10 weeks, and goes from $999 MSRP to now =< $600 in places.

So wait, I thought Robert from VE said the XA2 is so superior that upconverted SD-DVD playback is equal to BD? With all these problems it seems far from superior and he's just trying to dump his stock on you suckers.

I think you could stack the XA2 up against any Blue Ray player... including the $1500 Pioneer and the XA2's up-conversion will be superior.
You make it out like Blue Ray players are glitch free.
A friend of mine is on his second Sony player with HDMI issues. All one needs to do is scroll down the Blue Ray threads and there are all sorts of issues plaguing that format as well.
One really has to ask who is the sucker?? The one that pays two and three time the amount for Blue Ray and compared to HD-DVD players Blue Rays up-conversion is watchable at best.
