Wow.
And I bet if you hold tight for a month you may see a further decrease after the release of the A20.
I may wait to hear the reviews of the A20 and get one or the other.

Some members have been experiencing sound issues when using older AVRs without HDMI. Most members with HDMI have had zero problems with the unit. I have had it for about 5 weeks now and love it. IMHO if you have all HDMI connections you should be OK. Don't try to mix new technology with old and all should work as intended.

I just noticed this. I recently purchased mine from Value Electronics. I need to call them to see if they have a price-protection policy.

I doubt it. You need to consider that with VE you are getting free shipping and 2 free movies.

You're not with Amazon/JR, plus you pay shipping.

Plus, if you're in NY, JR will charge you sales tax. VE waives it for AVS members.

I got an e-mail with a link to an online e-tailer that is selling it for $690 with free shipping. Not sure if I'm allowed to post the link.

I got the A2 last week with 4 free movies instantly for about $480 with my Best Buy coupons. Not sure it would be worth it to return it to Best Buy and get the XA2. What would you guys do?

My tv, the JVC HD-61FN97 will deinterlace to 1080p so I don't think the 1080p output would be a big deal. I guess the primary reason would be for the XA2's upscaling, but the A2 seems to do a decent job of that.

I've really been wanting to pull the trigger on this for a while now but all of the video stuttering and error code posts have kept me away. These seem to still be occurring after the latest firmware so I guess I'll wait for another firmware update and buy it then (maybe even cheaper at a price point).

I'd pay that price in a heartbeat if the unit was more reliable.

If you have doubts you should definately wait. I've had my XA2 for two months
and it has ran flawlessly. No video stutter, audio issues(I use 5.1 analogs) or
error codes. Verry happy with this so far.

Display: Pioneer PRO-151 60" Elite
Blu-ray player: OPPO BDP-93, Sony BDP-S1000ES
HD DVD player: Toshiba HD-XA2(2)
Processor: Onkyo PR-SC885
Amplifier: Emotiva IPS-1 150Wx7
Game Console: Xbox 360, PS3
Speakers: Mythos ST(Fronts), Mythos Ten(Center), Mythos One(Rears)

I've had my XA-2 for a couple of weeks, using the 5.1 analogs and optical connections, and I have had zero problems. The only thing I do notice is the player's audio output is approx. 5-6 dbs less than my old A-1, but I get plenty of bass. I've never had any skipping or any other problems.

Yes, you are correct. I had forgotten about the two free HD DVD movies, which are worth more than the $24.90 difference after shipping. VE is still the way to go.

Plus, like I said on another thread, you might as well wait til the A20 comes out in, reportedly, 3 weeks, and see the reviews.
1- The XA2 may come down even more in price in response to a new player coming out.
2- The A20 may be superior in some ways such as the error problems.
3- If A20 is about as good, you've saved a couple of hundred dollars.

Free shipping!

That's the deal I mentioned earlier, but I wasn't sure I could post the link. Actually, it looks like they've lowered the price even more! It was $690 when I saw it.

Why not? All of this new A/V gear should (and advisedly, better be) be backward compatible with older equipment. Let's not reinvent the wheel here!

I've ordered (albeit not recently) a lot of PC hardware/component from CompuPlus in the past without a glitch. They are a stickler for their policies though, so I'd suggest actually reading them before purchasing from them.

Any comments on my little self-debate here? Now that the XA2 is showing up for $670, that is very enticing.
