Amazon has the ToshibaHD-A2 HD-DVD player for $349.

Depends on how much time you spend watching movies vs computer games on deciding on that or a new video card.

I would say to go for the HD-A2 right now. Inexpensive, free movies, can't go wrong really.

Then a regular HD DVD player is your best bet. If you can afford it, get the XA2. Otherwise the A2 is great.

It depends on your equipment & $$. I have a 360 add-on and for the price it is great. If you have more money I'd say go with a stand alone. If money is no issue the XA2 has the best upconversion and analog outs (which I would love to have because I have an older receiver). If you don't care about those features the A2 or A20 would be best (A20 if you care about getting 1080P).

The upconversion quality alone warrents purchase of the standalone. You also have better audio options with true lossless possibilities and 1.5 mbps downscaled audio. The 360 add on cannot offer lossless sound and currently downsamples the audio to 640kbps.

Last Watched 3D: Oz the Great and Powerful

It should be called Violet-Ray

Unless you use it with a good HTPC. You'll get full lossless TrueHD and 1080P. A good HTPC will also upscale as well if not better than the XA2 with the proper software installed (DScaler008, FFDShow resizex3 lanczos2 LS 0.9 with tweaked avisynth settings for example).

If price is a top concern and you already have an XBox 360 (or you're planning to buy one anyway), then get the add-on. It's a great player. It's even better if you can use the VGA cable to get the upconversion (or via HDMI if you're already planning to buy an Elite anyway). If you don't have a 360 and are not planning to get one anyway, or if price is not a top concern, then look into a stand-alone player (like the $350 A2 mentioned above).
