since the A20 is not listed is it considered G2? Does it share firmware with other G2 players?

EDIT: Whoops, it does address the A20
Summary of Fixes:

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q1. What does this update do?

A1. This update addresses some problems Toshiba has identified with HDMI/DVI connectivity and disc playback.

Q2. When I connect my HD DVD Player to my HDTV or HD Monitor using a HDMI to DVI adaptor cable or a HDMI to DVI adaptor, the output resolution of the player remains fixed at 480i. Does the new firmware address this issue?

A2. This firmware update addresses the issue. Should you continue to experience problems, please contact Toshiba Customer Solutions at (800) 319-6684.

Q3. The HDMI output does not work or works intermittently with the HDMI or DVI input on my HDTV or monitor. Does the new firmware address that problem?

A3. The firmware update addresses and improves HDMI and DVI connectivity. If you still experience problems, try disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable. Make sure your display input is set to HDMI (or DVI). If your display has more than one HDMI/DVI input, make sure that all connected HDMI/DVI source devices are powered on (even if not in use). If none of these solve the problem, please turn off the TV and the HD DVD player. Check all connections. Disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable. Turn on the TV first and then turn on the HD DVD player. Should you continue to experience problems, please contact Toshiba Customer Solutions at (800) 319-6684.

Q4. During HD DVD playback I sometimes experience pixelization, block noise or audio dropouts. Sometimes playback freezes or stops. Sometimes, playback is not smooth. Does the new firmware address these issues?

A4. This firmware update addresses various playability issues. You should also check to be sure that the disc is clean and, if the disc will not operate at all, that you are inserting the disc with the right side up. Should you continue to experience problems, please contact Toshiba Customer Solutions at (800) 319-6684.

Q5. Do I need to install prior firmware updates before installing the current firmware update?

A5. No. The current firmware update includes all of the prior firmware updates.

***Warning*** Do not look into laser with remaining eye!!

As predicted, it looks like this one does not address the LFE issue,

I just updated my HD-A2 yesterday to 1.3; the version notes for 1.3 are the exact same as those for 1.5 I am not sure what this version is supposed to fix?? (unless they forgot to change the FAQ part of the version notes)

Interesting that Robert didn't say anything about availability of this update, and indicated v1.4 would be next. Is the 1.5 update online only, or can you update via the ethernet connection as well?

Robert did say that this one was coming in april and would be called 1.5...with the next one coming in a month or so, hopefully to look at LFE then.

This stuff reminds me of when "Quake 2" came out and I had to wait for three or four patches until it was even playable on my PC. Well, it's not that bad...

My XA2 has had issues with Children of Men and The Good Shepherd. I wonder if this addresses the problems I've been having? I'm about to send The Good Shepherd to Universal (kudos to Universal for such classy service...they Fed Ex'd me a prepaid envelope)...I think I'll try it after updating to 1.5 tonight before I send it back.

Update on my A2 is on 2/37, I'm curious what this covers.

I'm curious as well to see what this really fixes/addresses in terms of problems!!
The FAQ, seem to be exactly the same as when the 1st FW up-date came out.
Perhaps someone (LIKE ROBERT) can find out exactly what the 1.5 FW fixes.
I too will wait for the 1.5 disk to be sent to me.
I am in Canada (Toronto), & Toshiba Canada has been great in terms of sending me the FW disks. In fact, the day after the anouncement of a FW up-date I usually get the disk.

Cheers

Paul

Still 25 minutes for download parts 1-37 and going through steps 1-5.

Now 1.5/T20T

I'm in the same boat as HomerJay, except I have the HD-A2, and I just got the e-mail from Universal about mailing me the Fedex mailer for my CoM HD DVD evaluation. I'll gladly send it back, but would like to update to v1.5 first.

I swear to God (non-denominational, of course) that this is worse than some PC game patches, and I agree the FAQ addresses nothing new.

Maybe Toshiba figured out that running some HD DVD's on their players is like trying to play F.E.A.R. or BF2142 on Windows 95, it ain't gonna happen.

You can't update RAM, drives, and graphics cards with a patch...Hmmm, but you can tinker with BIOS...What are Toshiba up to???

Oh yeah...and don't tell me "The tray door opens faster"...ridiculous and useless!!!

just finished updating to 1.5.... nothing broken yet...... got me little worried because step 5/5 seems to be hung for good 5+ min before shutting off w/out a normal finishing message.

The 1.5 disc won't be available for about two weeks I was told. Hopefully I won't have any issues reading it like I did with the two 1.3 discs. If so I'll have to bite the bullet and move the play to the router location and attempt to download it.

...hey, let me know the first person to get a Hex error with 1.5 - if you're finally free of those, that'd be super awesome...
