report your findings here

update: the 2.3 ISO can be downloaded here:

http://tacp.toshiba.com/tacpassets-....ware.asp<br />

-- THANK YOU none74 FOR THE LINK !!! --

IF YOU HAVE HAPPY FEET PROBLEM try the following:

1. update FW to 2.2
2. clear Persistent Storage
3. shutdown player
4. unplug player
5. press power on player (yes, AFTER unplugging)
6. wait for about 1 minute
7. re-plug power
8. restart player and play the disc.

My disc problem solved forever after doing the above sequence.

I think this is to fix the HDMI-DVI issue. As usual, Toshiba Canada is completely oblivious with the existence of 2.2 "there is no such thing as version 2.2, Sir"

David- just got my 2.1 version 5 minutes ago in the mail. I have a dvi-hdmi cable for my set up and have read here about the problems with 2.1. Called Toshiba Canada (yes there was somebody there at 4:30 est.) and they had no clue that there was a problem with firmware 2.1 and said that their engineers would have analysed my situation and sent out the firmware to fix. But I have had no problems with 2.0. I think I should wait for the responses from other 1st gen users before updating to 2.2, forget about 2.1.

hopefully this fixes the DVI problems for the DVI users. Pretty cool Toshiba jumped right on the problem and came out with a fix. I wonder if this is the only difference between 2.1. Maybe it works on the HDCP handshake as well. 2.1 has been great for me but I also use component video. Can anyone test the boot and loads times before and after updating?

The cluelessness of tech support of Canadian company is astounding. I face the same problem with Canon, Nikon, Samsung, Sony and now Toshiba. The only company that still great are Yamaha and Pioneer.

Yes they have no clue-when I told the tech guy that I heard about the problems with 2.1 he asked me where I heard this and I told him AVS FORUM and he said that if I did not get the information from Toshiba Canada's website or directly from Toshiba Canada that it was not true and not to listen. I trust what the people around here experience before I trust some dude on the phone from Toshiba Canada. Please update us on 2.2. Thanks guys (and girls).

I just loaded 2.2, took a long time, almost an hour. I downloaded it because my A1 would not play Relentless Enemies. It will play now, will update after playing some disks that had given me minor probs in the past...like MI3. It would almost always freeze when they started across the bridge.

This appears to have fixed the HDMI->DVI issues for my setup. A1 to a Lumagen HDP.

I wish this one would really solved my Skips and locks. After 2.1 MI:3 still locks at the bridge and Happy feet locks at the Graduation splash scene.

Yup... HDMI/DVI fixed.... one thing I did notice is that it boots faster now... takes about 22 sec to see the welcome screen.

Geez, I have to go out and play a gig tonight. Won't have time to try on 2.2 'til tomorrow.

I'll be reading this thread with much interest. I had to move over to component with 2.1 ... it killed my HDMI (out) > Gefen switch HDMI (in) > DVI (out) > IN76 M1-DA (in).

I think I had 1.4, I had never upgraded before since everything was working, except MI3.

cool that this fixes the DVI problems for you all that were affected.

I'll wait and see what others think of 2.2. When i upgraded to 2.1, it really helped playback in most of the discs...so i'm hesitant right now to upgrade unless this fixes more than the DVI issue...

The update notes on Toshiba's site for 2.2 are identical to 2.1....looks like they didn't update it unless 2.2 actually adds more network functionality than 2.1 did.

Can anyone confirm if Stalingrad will recognize now? I guess I'll go update myself and see....not holding my breath.

My 2.1 works fine (I'm HDMI to HDMI), but the drive head makes a lot more noise now. 'clunk clunk' noises like something broke loose or something. Anyone know if that stopped with 2.2? It's really obvious on say, a menu screen of a dvd when the video loops.

Just updated and my boot time increased from 51 seconds to 64. Hoping I'll be able to watch my burnt videos and hopefully play thru NIN without skipping. Took 31 minutes to update. Here's hoping for the best for all of us

I'm with you Jason. My playback has been near flawless since 2.1 so I am hesitant to tinker with it.

I havn't heard any clunky noises that some others have reported but mine is in my stand with a sliding front glass door. I tried to listen next to it and I didn't hear anything. My DirecTV HR20 is so loud I probably wouldn't hear anything even if it was there.

2.1 I have a HUGE collection of video from Iraq that I want to show my family. So far I've been unable to play any of them thru my Toshiba, yet they play fine on my pc? NIN has made it farther than usual

Wow so you were even having issues with NIN even with 2.1? 2.1 completely cured mine. I watched it all the way through and man what a disc! That is what HD DVD is all about!

I'm assuming the burnt discs you are talking about are SD DVD? If they play only on your PC they may be in a different format. Have you tried them on any other DVD players?
