Does size matter? Cuz i notice it on HD-A30/HC5000/Carada 110". And i first had to eliminate the RX-V2700 for both it and PS3 to send the proper signal.

Go figure, fineckier than an air cooled Zaporozhets (the Onkyo of Russian

It depends if you are changing any Picture Adjustments from the Defaults. When playing a disc at 1080p24, enable EE (either 1 or 2) and see what happens.

We are having this discussion in the Onkyo HD805 thread.

I have read that in the 1080P 24 mode, the XA2 bypasses the Reon chip. Does it do this with SD discs as well?

It uses the Reon, but either the EMMA3 is doing the picture adjustments (except for the exclusive Reon NR's), the Reon has a Pass-Through mode or the EMMA3 passes 1080p24 directly to the HDMI Port (unless any PQ Settings are changed from their Defaults).

As I noted in the Onkyo thread, the Block Diagram in the XA2's Service Manual clearly shows two paths, one bypasses the Reon. We're not sure what specifically happens internally when the non NR PQ Settings are used (i.e. EE, which does effect the PQ in 1080p24).

turbe,

Do we know if the A30/A35 is designed like the XA2 in this regard?

I'll search for the Service Manuals, I've never looked at them for those two though I had both before my XA2.

If you have a link to the SM(s), let me know.

I assumed the A20, A30, A35 and XA2 outputted the RAW stream when set to 1080p24. Now, I don't think we're sure what is going on in Firmware (XA2) since some Picture Adjustments can effect the 1080p24 output (processed).

Any new firmware news?

I'm waiting for a firmware >2.7, because 2.7 broke my HDMI handshake with my Toshiba LCD... (every version <2.7 worked without problems)

I set my A30 to 1080/24 when I hit display I get it saying 1080p should it say 1080p 24 somewhere? Does this mean I am not getting the 1080p/24?

I didn't think I'd really see a difference but I do. Pans and movement in general is so smooth now. I was never even sensitive to judder but the difference is still night and day for me. I am using a HD-A35 and a Sanyo PLV-Z2000 1080p projector. I am not sure what multiple of 24 the refresh rate is but it looks great. On the information tab in the menu it shows a 1080p 24hz signal.

The only way is to get into the "Information" menu of your display, if it has such a tab. There you will see things like bulb life, vertical (this would be 23.98 for film or 30Hz for video off teh Dish or DireTV tuners) and horizontal rez, etc.

I am not able to get 1080p/24fps working on the Toshiba HD-XE1 with Firmware 2.7.
I did buy the XE1 a couple of dats ago and I did the 2.501and 2.51 (Australian) upgrades first. I did not do any tests but went straight to 2.7.

The picture is terrible (lines all over the place and scrolling and much more. One can barely see what is shown. Even the menu is difficult to read). The projector (JVC HD1) plays it at 1080p 59.94HZ. Connection is HDMI.
First I thought it was the projector, but after connecting the XE1 to a 1080p/24 capable PIONEER 50" plasma I got the same bad picture. Definitely something wrong with the frequency.

Has anybody experienced something similar? I used different HDMI cables, long and short.

If somebody knows how I can make a clean install of 2.7 than I could give that a try.

The picture is OK at 1080p (without the 24).
Both the JVC-HD1 and Pioneer play PS3 Bluray 1080/23.976 beautifully which confirms that they are 1080/24 capable.

I tried with MI3. Same problem.
As I said it alredy happens when I go in the SETUP menu of the XE1. As soon as I choose the 1080p/24 option, the pictures goes blurry etc.
What is strange is that it is more blurry when I pass the HDMI through the DENON 4308 which does the switching.

I have a better picture but still not watcheable when I go directly to the projector. ???

No, the add on cannot output 1080p/24.

No, the add on cannot bitstream high bitrate audio either, but it will
convert it to DTS(1.5 mbs).

You have got to be kidding me. Can Toshiba do anything right? How can a CORRECTION that allows for 24fps only make things worse!

I didn't shell out a fortune for the XA2 over the A2 so that all the advantages behind it can be obsolete! I'm dependant on the player's Tint control, which I can't use in the TV, and the EE is priceless. Even if this issue is just speculation (there is no way I'm spending my time to research it!) I am sick and tired of the worry and the stress due to idiotic omissions made by a company that should know better!

Could you please share your thoughts on the DHS 8.8? I am considering the same player myself and would like to hear your feedback especially on the picture quality of SD DVD content. I'm sure HDDVDs look great. Also, have you tried bitstreaming the high def codecs like DTS-MA or DD TrueHD?

As far as ai know, only Pioneer and Sony will accept a 24 FPS signal. Are there other panels that support 24 FPS?

I think you're in the minority on this one. Most of the people who have posted about the 1080p/24 upgrade want it to be streamed directly from the disc with no processing of any sort.
