I do not believe that A35 has Analog Outputs. I have seen nothing to lead me to believe that it does. Did I miss something?

Robert's spec sheet lists analog outs for the A35.

Agreed, but as far as PQ and SQ are concerned, it does not seem like there will be ANY advantage to the new Onkyo if using HDMI for audio/video at this point over the XA2....atleast from what I can tell

It will be DTS: MA and pass bitstream amongst other upgrades.

The DTS-MA (from what I have read) will be passed via bitstream, but cant be decoded in the actual player. The XA2 will also be able to do this with the upcoming FW update. So again, I dont see any PQ or AQ advantage to the A35 and Onkyo 805. If there was/is I would buy it, but I just dont see it.

So it can't pass DTS MA over analog outs? Only over HDMI? Have I got that right?

Not if it cant decode DTS-MA in the player which from what I have read it cant. So yeah HDMI only for DTS-MA.

It was mentioned either earlier in this thread or another one that there will be no Integra version.

Just curious, but why do a number of people think this will simply be a re-badged 2nd generation Toshiba?

I'm really interested in this as it has the HQV for my DVD collection whereas the 3rd generation Toshiba has dropped it.

Feature Set, Chips inside and layout all match the Toshiba (Software upgrade for Toshiba will allow 1080P/24 and Bitstream). Also the Whathifi article that first pictured and mentioned this player said it was based on the Toshiba HD-XA2.

I am curious that if the HD805 is basically a XA2 clone then why pay the extra money for it over the XA2? I can see if the internal components are of a higher quality but if not I see no reason not to go with the XA2.

I guess I need the XA2 then, but I just hate buying an "older" model. Guess I need to start watching sale prices if I have to "settle" for the XA2.

Does the XA2 have the resume feature? If that HD805 has it, that would another point in its favor.

Me too. However - as soon as I buy an XA2 - Toshiba will announce an XA3 w/ all the bells and whistles (never fails)

You do have a good point. And you have waited this long. You might want to see if there are any announcements for a XA3 soon. And you may want to see what everyone thinks of Toshiba's new firmware coming out shortly...

With the 1080p/24 and later bitstream for the XA2 what would be missing? I haven't heard on board DTS-HD MA for any of the players yet. Not much to worry about unless the OS is given some more horsepower to increase the load speeds.

I doubt it. I think they are giving this market to Onkyo in exchange for them joining the HD-DVD camp.
