I just got one of these FC4 HDMI to component converters and i notice there is a lot of screen jitter. Sometimes it gets so bad the screen shakes significantly to the point the display is unwatchable. Has anyone seen this happen or does it sound like I have a defective unit?

Sounds defective to me. Mine has been rock steady from day 1.

Check your connections very carefully. Make sure they are all clean and inserted fully.

Good luck,

Got one of these and hooked it up via the supplied vga to component cable. The image is very good and stable apart from some intermittent horizontal color banding (mostly a translucent blue violet that appears for a few seconds and then fades). Enough to be noticeable and spoil the overall effect though. Is anyone else having a similar problem?

I second that. I have an HDFury and it's been flawless since day 1. I don't have the crescendo though since I do not need it. My inputs are RGBHV. No presense of color lost. Just full and vibrant. I've used this on Mitsubishi WS-48313 2003 model and 1997 Sony VPH 1272 without any issue and both at 1080i.

I've been looking for an FC4 HDMI to Component converter and I haven't been to find any. Are they cracking down on them or something?

I bought 2 from ebay just a couple of days ago, just waiting for the shipment. I bought them for 2 HDTV that do not have HDMI.

I just searched for "visionFC4" on ebay and they are still selling.

I see a new device for converting from HDMI to Component on eBay now:

http://cgi.*********/HDMI-to-Compone...QQcmdZViewItem

I have no knowledge of this new one or if it works well, but it's a bit cheaper than the Vision and provides a digital coaxial audio output along with the component video, something the Vision does not offer.

Anyone try this thing yet?

Edit to add: Ok, the link won't work, but you can go to eBay and look up item number: 260206550990

It sure does. I can't wait to see someone try it out and report back on centering and picture quality and such.

Another thing to test would be what happens when you send a TrueHD audio signal down the pipe. I don't imagine it will handle it too well...

For me, that's not a problem since I send all my stuff into my Denon 3808 via HDMI and/or S-Video (VHS) and then output via HDMI to the VisionFC4. So audio is handled pre-Vision. This also solves the centering issue since I can center my TV's input to just one signal (mine was not far off compared to some I've read here, but was slighty offset).

Good price too.

My only question would be whether the Ambery allows upscaling with HDCP content as it doesn't state this in the specs

I sent them an email with this question as well as one on centering. I'll post their response here when I get it.

I have not received an answer from ambery.com yet, however I had also emailed the eBay vendor and he did send a response:

Thanks for the email.

Unfortunately our units can not handle HDCP content per HDCP regulation.

I'd still like to see someone test it though...

Hi folks!

I have been following this thread for a while with great interest. I have a Denon 3808, HD DVD and Blu-Ray. My problem is that I have a wonderful projector, an old Marantz vp 12 s3, that provides great Component 1080i, but so-so DVI. I want to enjoy the benifits of the HD Audio codecs but that requires the HDMI set-up which requires my so-so DVI. So, I decided to purchase the HDVA-AU from Ambery today to see if their HDMI to Component conversion will work for me. I am having it overnighted to me and plan to hook it up tomorrow night. I will let you know how it goes.

By the way...

I was told by Ambery that "the unit can NOT handle HDCP content; however, if your projector/TV works when your HD device is hooked up directly with component the HDVA-AU should work."

We shall see.........

Hi Roger,

Thanks for the email.

Our converters are not allowed to support HDCP

Our converters have no such problems of output
pictures being off center or cut off.

Bummer... the device did not solve my problem. It is clear that the unit will not transmit HDCP content thru to the component in, even if your Projector/TV itself allows it. This was very disappointing. I tried alot of different settings, but the end result was no picture.

I will follow-up with Ambery next week to see if I'm missing something. I hope they will accept the return if I can't get this thing to work.

In the meantime... Roger, if you are there... do you think the VisionFC4 would work in my situation? I would be running it the same way you are.

P.S. In all fairness to Ambery, their other unit, the HDVA, which is an HDMI to VGA to Component setup (like the VisionFC4) may still solve my problem. To clarify, the unit I tested, the HDVA-AU is an HDMI directly to Component setup.

I have the FC4 connected to my incredibly awesome Toshiba HD-XA2 via HDMI and then to my older Mitsubishi component inputs.

I have not noticed a centering issue, so if it is present it must be relatively subtle.

Does anyone have any idea why it is legal for the FC4 to bypass HDCP but not the Ambery?

Roger, thanks so much for bringing life back to my old Mitsubishi!

Lou,

Yes, I believe the VisionFC4 will do for you what it has for so many of us. You may not even see a centering issue, some have, some haven't. The great thing about hooking it all up through the receiver is that if you do have a centering issue, one adjustment at the display device will solve it.

Just to clarify, HDCP is not converted unless the input is 480p/i or 576p/i. The HDV4-AU (a.k.a. CP-283HD) is similar to the ExtenHD XCON-YUV, and its user manual states the following:
Quote:

HDCP compliant - when input is HDCP encrypted (protected),the INPUT LED will blink. In the meantime, the component out will be turned off, unless input resolution is among 480p/i, 576p/i which can still output through component connector.

I find it strange that it converts HDCP for those, but not for 720p and 1080p/i. The HDCP license agreement states that a device "shall not permit the output of Decrypted HDCP Content in any analog representation." What is the point of being partially compliant with this rule?

By the way, the HDV4-AU produces extremely incorrect colors for 480i YCbCr input, but it works fine for 480i RGB input, so you should configure your source device to use RGB instead of YCbCr for 480i (if it lets you choose).

I just got mine the other day and thus far I'm somewhat disappointed. The screen shifts to the left as many have pointed out, and even though that is easily fixed via the service menu there is an intermittent horizontal color banding (as andygiddings pointed out). I've E-Mail the seller twice with no reply yet. I'm using a Hitachi 53" UWX RPTV.

So to make sure that I am understanding this. Lets take my setup: I have a only Philips tube 1080i HDTV without HDMI. I have a 360 w/ hdmi and the hddvd add-on. To what I am understanding is that if I wanted to use the HDMI on my 360 I could purchase a VisionFC4 and it will even play upconverted DVDs (as best that it can....) to 1080i?

Count me in as a VERY happy VisionFC4 owner. I received and just finished hooking up the FC4 that I got on Ebay and it is all working PERFECTLY. My Marantz VP12s3 Projector is processing with perfect centering, even on a 120" screen! I am really thrilled. There is also no loss in resolution in 1080i. Finally... I can get TrueHD sound thru the HDMI on my Denon 3808 AND a great picture on the projector's
'Component In' too!!

Roger, thank you VERY much for the recommendation and for bringing up the discussion of the FC4 on this thread.

I'm a happy camper!! (It's the little things in life...)

My old Pioneer plasma has component and VGA inputs so I'm trying to decide if the VisionFC4 (using component) or HDFury (using VGA) is better. Any suggestions?

Is Lektropacks.com in the UK the manufacturer or just the distributor of VisionFC4? It's not very clear on the website.

Is the ebay seller the official seller in the US or is there another one?

Thanks!

The VisionFC4 has VGA or Component output so would work in either mode for your setup. I have no personal experience with the HDFury.

They are the manufacturer and can be found on the web.

I don't know if they are official or not, but I do know they stand behind the product. They gave me the info on the diode cut (now standard on new units) and offered to take the unit back if that didn't solve my problem.

Additionally, the manufacturer offered to help diagnose and solve any problem I had even though I didn't buy it directly from them.

Many thanks for your kind reply Roger.

Just one more query: is the VisionFC4's power supply universal? Does it need an adaptor or transformer on American sockets? Thanks!
