I got mine this week. I think I sent in the form around mid May. Only one of the HD-DVD's had a slash over the bar code, the others were perfect. Has anyone tried to exchange these at a local store for some things you 'really' want? If so, were you successful? And if successful, where?

While this off topic, I highly suggest that you NOT do this - while you could probably get away with it, I personally believe it would be like stealing. The store did not make any money off the disc you're returning, and you're obtaining store credit or cash to spend. This would be quite unethical.

I love HD...and I hated that Anti-Consumer format war.

Now that we can move on... Blu-ray > Digital Downloads!

I bought an A2 on May 12, submitted the forms with a few days and discs arrived July 20. I'd say they got their act together.....probably told the factories to increase duplication of titles based upon previous trends

Mailed my rebate in on May 29th. Received the movies yesterday (July 20th) - less than 2 months which is much better than I was expecting. I did receive all of the movies that I ordered (no substitutions), and they came by media mail. I had 3 Universal titles and the bar codes were slashed on those.

Actually, this wouldn't be at all like 'stealing' nor would it be unethical. The store would receive unopened, retail packaged, HD-DVD's that are shelf-ready that they could just sell at normal retail price. It's not like they would be getting non-saleable merchandise. Then, they would, in turn, make a profit on whatever I decided to buy from them using the store credit. So, there is no 'stealing' involved, and if their store policy allows for exchanges not using a receipt, then there's no harm in simply having them apply that policy. So, back to my original questions - has anyone done this? If so, where?

I called them back on the number provided on the letter (which I now can't find) and explained to them that I do not have rural USPS postal delivery in my area - My PO box number is my address. I then asked if it would be ok if I resubmitted the form with my street address on top, followed by the PO box number. I was told yes - tho my DVD's have still not arrived.

Questions:

1) Has any1 received there free hd-dvds? How long did it take? Did you receive them by regular first class USPS mail?

2) Can someone suggest a number to call - this is starting to piss me off.

thx in advance for any suggestions (but don't say go blu - lol). That will happen if and when I decide to pick up a PS3 for the kids this Christmas.

John

Nice!
I am in the exact same situation. I live in a small ski town and the Post Office does not deliver to street addreeses. I saw in the small print on the "five for free" form that they do not deliver to PO Boxes, so before I sent out form, I callled the 1800 number on the form and explained my situation. I was told if I submitted a form in writing stating my post office's policy, they would ship to the PO Box. This was done on the 3rd of March. I then received a letter two months later stating my submission was refused as I gave a PO box number for delivery. I called and related my initial conversation, faxed original documents submitted, and was assured my order was valid. Now I call every few weeks, and am told "order is processing, sorry, we were not expecting such an overwhelming reply to our offer". It has now been so long, I keep almost buying the movies I am supposed to be getting free.....
I think you folks that have received the 5 free are lucky!
Best,
James

I originally sent in for mine back in march. But in may I received notice that I would have to re-choose my movies because I chose more than 1 movie from each line. Well last monday I received them. So it took 4 months to get mine.

Just received mine today, I had sent it in the beginning of May.

Only "Seabiscuit" suffered the gouging at the UPC code spot on the case.

"Casablanca", "Tomb Raider", "We Were Soldiers", and "Blazing Saddles" are as pristine as from the store shelf.

And complete with the metal anti-shoplifting sticky in the "Seabiscuit case as well.

Perhaps this gouging is performed when a retailer returns the HD-DVD's?

Received mine today. Submitted 4 months ago. So long ago that ,due to the limited choices,I forgot that I selected 3 titles that I already own and the other two I didn't want to own . Three had UPC gouging.
Seabiscuit, U-571 and The Rundown.

Got mine today. Submitted on May 14. The three Universal titles are trashed. I'll be getting new cases and printing custom covers for them. 10 weeks to the day, not too shabby.

Seems it's only Universal that's doing this ghastly act.

Only choose Paramount and Warner titles to avoid it.

A call to the fulfillment company reveals that -surprise- nothing has changed since last week. My request was sent in almost 17 weeks ago and the discs are still waiting to be shipped. Toshiba's customer support supervisor was, apparently, unable to expedite them. The fulfillment company had no notes about trying to expedite it.

This is on Toshiba. It is unfair and disrespectful for orders to be filled out of order. I've decided that Toshiba and HD-DVD will no longer be my only HD content provider. I will be getting a Blu-Ray player here very soon. Where both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD titles are available, I'll opt for the Blu-Ray version.

I really wish I didn't feel it necessary to do this. But I have to demonstrate my unhappiness to Toshiba in some fashion. Withholding my money is the only logical choice.

Despite receiving my 5 today, I noticed that 3/5 of mine had a huge gash near the UPC. The Rundown, U-571 and Apollo 13 had these. Why do they do this? Do they think people are going to try and return them to a retailer such as Best Buy to try and get cash for them or something?

Yes, because people probably would if given the chance. I think it'd be better to simply use a marker and make a line across the UPC, but hey, it's still free.

82 HD DVD and 230 Blu-ray so far with plenty of DVDs too

Finally received my 5 free discs today, but I'm a little pissed; 2 out of the 5 cases were cut in the back. I hate when people are careless. The cover of Apollo 13 is trashed, and The Rundown was cut, but not as badly.

I just mailed my certificate today. It appears that I can now look forward to weeks of waiting before receiving mutilated cases! Great.

Called Toshiba 800 number for update. HD-DVDs were sent out on Friday, July 20. Was told to expect them in 4-6 weeks from that date. Sent in offer form the first week of May.
