I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but the latest version of ImgBurn will burn HD DVD player firmware updates. I successfully updated my A30 using it.

Thanks for the tip!

I wrestled with making several firmware coasters, too. Apparently, they were not correct ISO images. I googled and went to the following url, which I am not allowed to post because I don't have 3 posts yet, BUT, if you type "iso recorder v2+Alex Feinman" into Google, you will see it.

This corrected the problem and worked great the first time! - no problems, and very simple!

Cheers,
Larry

Any word on One last firmware for the A1? Just wondering if toshibia will do one last Update for the A1 or better yet all the players. Sort of a firmware to end all.

I have tried everything to burn a V1.3 Disc to upgrade my 1.1 version A3 Player that I recently obtained. Not computer literate I guess. Please PM me if you can and I will compensate you for your troubles. Located in California.

Thanks in advance if someone can help,

David

Just updated my HD-A1 from 2.2 to 3.0 via ethernet. I tried and tried to burn a CD and couldn't get it to work. I tried MagicISO, Deep Burn, as well as Nero 8 while following all the instructions to the letter but still no luck. The player wouldn't recognize the CD-R and would always say "no disc". I trashed about 5 CD-R's altogether. I updated fine with a CD-R on my XA2 using DeepBurn. Not sure what the problem is with the HD-A1.

I have a XA2 that is on firmware 2.8. I have tried burning the 2.7 rollback ISO several times, but the burn always fails. I have tried a couple of different links I found on the forum but they always do the same thing. I have tried different burners and computers.

Has anyone else had trouble trying to put the 2.7 ISO to disc?

I'm not even sure it will fix my problem, but ever since I went to 2.8 I get "no disc" message on my player. I have tried loading many different disc's but it still acts like there is no disc in the player.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I just read the posts about Deep Burn. Should I try that software for the ISO?

Have you tried using a different brand of CD-R? As I recall the A1/XA1 models can be picky about reading certain recordable disk brands. I've never had an issue with Memorex myself (Including CD-RW disks), so I'd suggest that brand. Another side benefit to using a CD-RW disk is that you don't waste a disk if the burn doesn't work - you can simply re-purpose it for another task.

I had the same problem attempting to upgrade my HD-A1 to 3.0 firmware. I downloaded the file, converted to .iso file and copied to CD using Active IsoBurner, ImgBurn, CDBurnerXP and BurnAtOnce on both my desktop (XP Media) and my laptop (Vista). I tried two different CD's, Memorex and Sony - no luck - must have burned 8 failed CD's. The HD-A1 kept indicating "incorrect format" and "CD" on the TV screen, and "Unable to read" on the DVD display. As a last resort, I attempted to download the firmware using my ethernet connection - SUCCESS!!! Not sure what the problem is - in the past I was successful using Win XP and Active IsoBurner.
My HD-A30 is much less finicky. The only other machine that gives me heartburn is my Sony BDP-S1 Blu-Ray player which requires DVDs to record downloaded .iso files. The BDP-S1 does not read CD's and does not have an ethernet port.

Never mind I guess. I got the ISO to burn with Deepburner. It must be superior in some fashion.

For those of us who stayed with firmware 1.3 because of the problems doing 24hz with firmware 2.0, does going to 3.0 correct any of this or should we stick with 1.3?

I have an A35.

edit: On second though, I think 3.0 is only for 1st gen players. Looks like 1.3 is still best for the A35, if you want proper 24 hz playback.

Finally!
I was able to rollback the 2.8 firmware on a XA-2 to 2.7.
I used deepburner at x4.
A big thanks to Arron for posting the image file!

Ive tried about 10 times to make both a 2.4 and a 3.0 upgrade cd for my HD-A1 with my work PC using IMG Burn. Nothing but coasters. The drive is a CRX310EE.. CD-R/RW/DVD-ROM.

I swapped in a Sony DRU-820A, DVD-RW... and burned a 3.0 cd the first time using IMGBURN.

This was using the same exact media as before (imation cd-r).. only change was the burner.

So for you guys that just cant seem to burn one, it might be your drive not the media or software your using. Might wanna hit up newegg.com or a local electronics store and buy a new DVD burner. Maybe everybody that has burned one sucessfully wouldnt mind putting up what burner they have?

For A-30 owners - Toshiba has available on line the latest firmware upgrade, 3.0. It has not appeared on the web download site, but if you have an ethernet connection and a hight speed connection, it takes about 10-15 minutes. There are 38 items in the upgrade to be download as a 51MB file.

I have burnt numerous working disks with my Samsung SM-332B combo CDRW/DVD drive. I think an important point to make here however is that firmware updates for the cd/dvd burner itself can often fix bugs and correct issues you may be having with the drive (Such as your aforementioned ISO burning issue). So rather than running out and buying a new drive right away, you may wish to check to see if the drive manufacturer is offering a more recent firmware for the drive that you can install.

I have the Toshiba A2 and saw the Version 3.0 firmware on their site.
Has anyone updated to Ver.3.0 ? Any bugs, problems? Is it worth doing it?

I have and it seems to work fine. FYI, it's being discussed in more detail here:
