I thought it would be interesting to have a single thread to show the bootup and disc load times we're all experiencing.

I'll go first:

HD-A1

Firmware: 2.3

Boot Time: 45 seconds

DVD Load Time: 35 seconds

HD-DVD Load Time: 50 seconds

I concur. The Xbox360 HD-DVD is fast.

+1

When I turn on my 360 it is less than 30 seconds and probably close to 20 or maybe even 15 to go from hitting the power button to the HD DVD playing. I'll time it later and issue a report.

HD-XA2

Firmware: 2.2

Boot Time: 30 seconds

DVD Load Time: 10 seconds (Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within)

HD-DVD Load Time: 20 seconds (Batman Begins)

I get 2-3 seconds for tray open.

All times based on flashing lights on HD DVD player display.

The actual HD DVD image took another second or two to flash up on my display after the player said it recognized the HD DVD.

Load time taken from open tray position from button push to display changing to say DVD or HD DVD.

Load times seem faster with the last couple firmware updates.

HDMI recognition not a problem at all for my front projector. I can even power my display up after I push the power button on the HD XA2. No issues.

My HD XA2 with the latest firmware is definitely faster than the last HD A2 I played with (unknown firmware version) a couple weeks ago. IMHO the HD XA2 makes the boot up and play times a non issue, and the 3rd generation players should be faster yet.

I don't pay muich attention with my A2. I turn it on, then go get the movie and wipe it with a soft cloth (mostly Netflix rentals) and turn on the TV. By the time I'm ready to insert the movie, the A2 is ready. Once the movie is inserted, it's very quick.
