I'm contemplating purchasing the HD-A2 but need to be reassured that I have the capability of at least enjoying 1080i resolution.
My HDTV is a Sony KV-36XBR400 which has NO HDMI or DVI connections...but DOES have component connections. I have no cable or satellite hookups but do use a Sony SAT-HD100 reveiver for over-the-air UHF digital channels which go to my TV at 1080i resolution via the component connection...and very nicely I might add which is why I hate to part with this excellent TV.
Now, the way I understand it is, I cannot upconvert regular DVD's without a HDMI hookup, but can get 1080i resolution with a component hookup when using HD DVD's....is this correct??
Now, to add some more fuel to the fire, I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-SR605 A/V receiver. Could I run an HDMI cable from the Toshiba HD-A2 to the Onkyo, and out the Onkyo to my TV with a component hookup and expect to upconvert to 1080i??
I'll eventually break down and buy a 1080p HDTV, but the whole purpose of this post is to try and enjoy every ounce of my Sony TV because it has been such a great performer. And I'm quite sure I'm not the only one in this predicament so any technical expertise that you could pass my way would be greatly appreciated!!
