Anyone who missed this deal might want to check out the pre-order for 3rd gen players. As mentioned earlier comes with 300 and Bourne Identity. And 5 more free from Toshiba.

Shipping & Handling: $17.62
Super Saver Discount: $-17.62

Grand Total: $273.00

They only deducted $21.78 instead of $83

I just got off the phone with Amazon, and they are asking me to fax them a copy of the email I received, which will have to wait until tomorrow morning, but the woman I spoke with was helpful, and will be calling me back tomorrow.

What a headache. But, if your DVD's and DVD Player shipped separately, make sure you check your grand total!!

Well, it's been resolved. I called them yesterday, and they told me my account was flagged to be followed u with on saturday (today) by a specialist. I called them today at 6:30 because I had not heard from them, and the woman on the phone said she was going to email the specialist saying I had called.

about an hour later I got an email saying they were going to refund $63 to bring the total prince back down to $210.

What a hassle!

I will say this about amazon, it is very easy to talk to a human. They have a feature in their help section that has them call you back. You put in your phone number and say call immediately, and your phone rings. Once you pick up, it connects you to the next rep available.

I think the longest I waited on hold was 3-5 minutes, and that happened only once. Every other time it was under 20 seconds.

Anyone have any experience with changing the shipping option on an order? My HD-A2 still hasn't shipped and I'm starting to get a wee bit impatient, since my HD-DVDs are just sitting there wanting to be watched . The only thing that I'm afraid of is if I change the shipping option the promotional discounts will get all screwed up. I'm thinking that it will mess it up, since changing the billing address seems to cause problems. Need the shinies .

You could try giving amazon.com a call, if you explain that you've heard that others had the price change when changing shipping methods, they could probably make sure it works correctly.

(Wears conspiracy hat).
This is another Blu-Ray ploy to steal sales from HD-DVD!! They know that the buyer will keep the disc and return the player in exchange for "one that works".

My HD-DVDs still have not shipped yet.

It's in the "shipping soon status."

Got my movies and a2 last friday. I think it does a better job at up converting SD DVD than the ps3. It has less artifacting/macro blocking than the Ps3 when upconverting SD DVD.

I've had my player a couple weeks now and was looking over the box/player and noticed that my A2 from this Amazon special is MIJ. I thought I read that most A2s were being made in China now? Mine came with 1.3 firmware. Anyway...no biggie, just thought it was kinda interesting.

Have an Onkyo 805 receiver and having trouble setting up Audyssey? HERE is a mini how-to.Click HERE to check out my comparison review of 5 different projection screen fabrics.

$@!@%@%!@!@#

my A2 arrived today (finally), I set it up, plugged it in, turned it on... and nothing. It's been stuck at "welcome" for 10 frigging minutes. I've rebooted the thing 3 times, called toshiba, and they say I have to send it in for repair, which is going to cost more money to ship!

thankfully the repair center is in state, about 90 minutes away, so it should only take a day to get there.

what the hell amazon. time to call bitch.

Why not return it to Amazon? They should even pay for the 2-way freight.

That's what I'm doing, I just got off the phone with them, for $9 extra I'm having them overnight me a new one, and I'll return the old one in that box.

I have 8 HD-DVD's I'm dying to watch, and this happens. What a pain in the ass.

That was EXACTLY what I was going to say.
My first A2 (that I did not even exchange, I just returned)
They had absolutely NO problem with the return, and paid full shipping.

A month later, I saw this deal and could not pass it up. So I bought the second A2 (no problems with it)
And the only reason for the first return, was mainly just customer satisfaction.

(I liked my XA1 better)

Yeah. For some reason the A2 is made in Japan while the D2 (same exact player for Costco) is made in China.

Does your PS3 have firmware >=1.8?

Although I am not 100% sure.
I would assume yes his player is up to date (with at least 1.8), considering he posted in this thread "Blu-Ray Audio Issue w/ PS3 Firmware 1.92/1.93"

Well, it arrived yesterday, what a fiasco. I've generally been impressed with amazon's customer service, but this one put me through the ringer.

When I called on monday, the rep I spoke with couldn't authorize the return because it was over his limit. He took down my information, I told him I wanted to pay the difference for overnight shipping (like $10), and said I would be contacted later that night.

The next day I still hadn't heard anything, so I emailed amazon explaining what had happend, and their reply was as if I had never called and it was all news to them. They put the exchange through, with standard shipping, which was 5 days.

I called them back, and told them what had happened, at noon on tuesday. They were very helpful, and since the person had obviously not put my original return through, they upgraded me to overnight shipping for free, it was due to arrive on wednesday.

Tuesday night I checked my order status, and it never shipped. I sent them an email asking what was up, and got a reply that they had discovered an "error with my order, which they fixed" and it would ship out wednesday. They also gave me a $5 credit for future purchases.

It shipped wednesday, and was delivered thursday, 3 hours after my new iPod Touch I hooked it up when I got home, and watched a few clips from The Fountain, it looked awesome.

I am now an official HD-DVD supporter

Very strange that Toshiba would make the same player from different countries. Luckily, I have the japanese version.
