I know, that's my question. VE is scheduled to ship G3 Toshibas to customers in September. The current promo (that runs through September) doesn't apply to the G3s.

The promo that DOES apply to the G3s doesn't start until October.

So the question is, are the people who preorder the G3s and get them in Sept SOL for the 5 free discs?

Some package deal they got there... who care about hdmi cables and what-the-heck-B&W TV BS but one need to pay $35-$45 for doubled-box?? but shipping is free...

LOL, is this a joke?? Last time i checked, free shipping means free shipping & doubled-box comes standard. You pay extra for faster shipping not double-freaking box.

Damed, Only the HD-A30 will ship this month, in fact, they are likely to ship next week. The A3 are scheduled to ship Monday 10/01/07 and A35's by the end of October or a little sooner. Anyone buying a A30 will have their choice of which 5 title mail-in rebate they want. Since only A30 customers will have this option I will communicate directly with every A30 customer on how we'll take care of selecting their rebate.

roger_richards, the additional 10% discount only applies to the TV.

zeroendless, we wanted to give forum members several special discounted choices to select from. The second option costs an additional $30 over the first option and offers a premium HDMI cable, a portable B&W TV and double boxing the entire order.

We are sincerely working hard to provide the deepest discount prices, add value and choices to match as many customers needs and likes as possible. Many forum members took advantage of all four options so for us and for the vast majority of forum members the varied offers were received very well.

Any chance someone could generously loan some of these to "Secrets" for testing and evaluation?

How about an option with base price with no 'extra' $30 accessories, doubled-box come standard?

No offend, that $30-$45 is charging for double-box alone. That how i see your business practice, Who's in their right mind paying for that unnecessary accessories. They just want to ensure a better packaging.

I have not purchased anything from VE but Robert seems to be a standup fellow and I would do bussiness with him but if you check as I did recently on a PJ mount I wanted he is like all dealers at some point is not the cheapest. He has given you an option either you take it or you don't who else is doing any better and at first release on an idem that is sure to be a hot idem. He could have just charged the higher price and let it be.

I don't know about hot-item, just another sucker-upgrade for another generation of hi-def player with nearly 1.5 generation new player per year...

I get 25% off the super-duper dazzling hot Integra 9.8 pre-pro with no trick what-so-ever... Now that's a straight forward discount, if only Integra can keep up with the huge demand. I don't bend over for $30-$45 dollars double-boxed with a trick, just value my opinion.

That is the info I was looking for, and will probably be placing my pre-order for the A3 sometime over the next week

I'd like to buy a gen-3 to replace my HD-A1 because I want to get a proper picture over HDMI->DVI.

I guess I need to wait until after these ship to find out whether this issue is finally fixed.

This is the best approach, given Toshiba's tendency to carry over issues with these players between the generations.

Because these units are firmware upgradable Toshiba has shipped the product based on a manufacturing timeline, fixing issues or problems later through firmware updates. This is similar to Microsoft fixing Windows versions as they go along.

If a feature is important to you, best to wait until the product actually performs as you expect and not rely on a future upgrade that may never happen.

I bought an XA2 based upon this comment because the idea of a getting a third gen player was very appealing to me, but the Reon processor is something I needed more.

Call Tosh CSR at 866-583-7353 they will tell you XA2 is being discontinued (or at least the one I talked to told me that) and it is being replaced with A35. Also they told me no guarantee that there will be a firmware upgrade for 24!

And no he has not seen A35 perform it is not available to any one yet. Unless his cousin works for Tosh HD DVD Dept!!!

I am on the same fence. XA2 Or A35? We know that Reon is "THE BOMB" to date..... Is Tosh trying to save some $ or will ABT give us AS GOOD AS if not better PQ? I would really like to see a professional review, side by side SIMELTANEOUS test to the same model 1080P LCD's. If anyone hears of 1, please start a new thread. I am sure many would be interested...

CSR's don't necessarily know a whole lot more than the caller, frequently less. Toshiba has clearly and specifically said p24 is coming for the XA2 -- believe it!

Someone help jog my memory.

When the XA2 came out, didn't someone with a sdi modified player going into a video processor containing the ABT chip basically say that the XA2 looked better at upconversion? Would this be the same chip that's in the A35??

AND, does this even matter for some of us that use preamps? The new preamps that are being developed have their own video processing included.

In other words, the A35 is looking better to me.

This is completely wrong. The XA2 stays in the line up an dis the flagship player. I give you my 100% guaranty that we will have the 24p and HBR upgrade on the A20 and XA2.

The XA2 is a great machine. At a really great price now (vs $999. earlier in the year) And the 24p upgrade will raise it to a new level (for those who can utilize it). But I just can't bring myself to buy a machine that has been on the market for nearly 9 months. Seems a G3 model or even the Onkyo (even though based on the XA2 design) would be a better choice.

I've already read that the G3 players take about 35 seconds to boot up which is equivalent to the G2 machines. Did you get chance to have a play with them at CEDIA and if so were they any quicker at actually loading a disc and also in general operation? If they are quicker I may well go for the A30 for it's faster operation, but if they are essentially the same in operation as the G2 machines I may splash out on the XA2 for it's up conversionn abilities.

Robert,
Thanks for actually taking the time to measure Other than physical appearance, is there any other difference between the A2 and the A3?
