ccotenj, yes but not today, in a few days. I'll do a little SD, but I have a busy schedule and want to mostly spend the little time I have watching HD content.

I would love to, but Toshiba limits its USA dealers to shipping to the US only.

Robert

Glad you're enjoying the A30 (lucky ***!!!)

The one thing that I would like to know is whether when outputting 1080p/24 the Toshiba's are feeding it directly from the disc to the display, or whether there is any intermediate interlacing / deinterlacing stage like we know most HD players do when outputting 1080p/60?

Hope you enjoy your new toy!!

Another quick question Robert:

It's already been confirmed that the boot up time is about the same as Gen 2 players, and that they load discs about 7 seconds quicker.

What about their general speed of operation (by this I mean how fast do they move through menus, how responsive are they when selecting options, pausing, rewinding etc etc)?

Cheers

You gotta see Toshiba's new G3 baby playing 1080p at 24fps with great titles, like Bourne Identity, 300 and you will fall in love allover again with Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich.

Thank you Toshiba, HD DVD, BD and all of the great studios for developing this fantastic entertainment. Good job, very great stuff you invented and created.

Can't wait for Transformers and Star Trek (CBS is re-mastering from the original 35mm film to HD DVD 1080p/24fps). Get ready to laugh, cry and smile like never before.

Tonight we're doing a Heros theater party at my home theater.

Robert, after watching Heros, please post more.

codeyf, sorry in our rush to get every last order out today we mistook your order for 2 A30s, but at the last moment we spotted our mistake and pulled your shipment. Sorry A3's are expected in two to max. three weeks.

GmanAVS, will do if I can every get out of my store/office this evening.

[quote=Poolrad;11484894]I was a bit surprised with the packages, the prices seem good but I was expecting double boxing on the entry level.

Yeah - You would think the double box would be something VE would insist on, since shipping damage will just create headaches on their end. From the end user perspective, I don't think I should have to pay more for it. If my A3 comes damaged due to not double boxing, its Roberts headache, not mine.

lol, no worries. I thought about the A30's, but both my plasma (Panny 77U) and my parents DLP (Samsung) are 720p. So the A3's will do the job nicely.

Robert, two questions:

1) Please, clarify on speed/smoothness of operation of the A3 players versus the A2. I hate how jerky and slow the operation of fast-foward/rewind/etc are on the A2 compared to PS3 BD playback. This is extremely important to me.

2) Are you or will you at any time be offering the VE two extra HD DVD titles from your store - in addition to the 7 one gets w/the 3rd gen players. If so, will this deal include the cheapest model, the HD-A3?

Whille I respect Robert's opinion,I hardly call that a review since he has everything to gain.Posting positive results would most likely be a given for increased sales, and thats not to say that Im not going to buy 1 from him because I most likely will since he has been very nice to answer alot of our questions about various topics.I'll wait a bit for an unbiased review before deciding which model I buy from him though.Who am I fooling...Unbiased reviews these days, not likely.Everyone has something to gain by writing a good review now.

3) Oh, also - can you confirm that the A3/etc allow subtitles to come on immediately and be selected smoothly via one press of the "subtitle" button on the remote. I hate how currently you have to go into the menu to turn on subtitles with HD DVD movies.

So I have a Toshiba Regza 42XL196 max 1080i input TV with the HD-A2 ... help me out here: do all HD DVD discs have 24 fps encoded? Bourne Supremacy arrived today from amaz...com as part of that cool 3 for 2 offer last week ... I see the HD30 bit ... plus 1080p 2.35:1 ... is it 24 fps as well? Is Heroes, season One?

agreed. If I can buy any package from Robert (I can't since I'm in Canada), I'd rather get a pencil eraser than the B/W TV. It'll be more of use for me.

Hmmm, maybe I should just buy one and sent to my cousin in the US and she'll drive it over to me here.

There is probably a better thread for this question, but I've got a new Pio 6010 and saw you used a Pio and I was wondering if going to the A30 was worth the extra cost over the A3. I have heard the 1080i deinterlacing on Pios is very good that there is no reason to have a player do that unless it is something along the lines of the Reon. Do you have any experience comparing the Pio's capabilities to the deinterlacing of the A30 (or the XA2, A20, etc.)? I realize it's a different Pio but if the one you have matches the deinterlacing of the players then I assume the 6010 will as well.

I realize that the 24p output should theoretically look better on the 24p capable Pio as well and may justify the extra cost of the A30, but I've never heard someone actually do an A/B comparison notice a difference and have heard several people say they cannot.

Just trying to justify spending the extra A30 cash.

Say, Robert. Where's my 1080p24 update for my XA2 that you promised back in February while you were raving on the XA2 for that exact ability while selling XA2's and A2's hand over fist at the rock-bottom price of $800 and $500, respectively?

Just curious.

I trust his "review" as much as I trust the ad spots that Pepsi buys during the Superbowl.

So let's see real reviews now. And what, I wonder, are the advantages of the A30 (or A35) over the XA2? At this point, I'd hope for at least MUCH faster startup and hardware response to remote commands, since the XA2 looks capable of pretty much everything else...
